Is SWG really THAT bad?

Postby Oddysee » Sun Aug 31, 2003 10:57 pm

So... Does SWG really suck that bad?...
The more I look at it, the more tempted I am. Have I been corruptd by the evil mind controll units sent out by Sony? Or is it really not that bad?

Go ahead and try it. You shouldn't ever garnish an oppinion until you've tried something (though there's nothing wrong with bearing peoples words in mind). ^_^ You may find it to your liking.

I played it (friends comp), and got bored pretty quick despite the cool graphics. If there's afree trial, go for it. ^_^

Well I was a bit interested in SWG, but I heard some horrific things (9 types of wounds, damage, as well as battle fatige)

And that they seem to actually force you to go to cantina's (Like AO's GSP parties).

World of Warcraft is what interests me the most, as well as Shadowland, but with Soul Calibur II, KOTOR, and others, my cash is taken up.

Its not nearly as bad as its made out to be.

Yes, there are 9 types of wounds...

But there are only 3 damage pools.

You can get hit in any of them. The other six stats are secondary stats that affect regen rate of their corresponding pools, and how much abilities cost to use.

Try the game if you think it might be interesting -- i know I'm really enjoying it.

And yes, you do have to go to clubs -- for a couple minutes every day or so to heal the battle fatigue. Otherwise the dancer and musician professions would never get a chance to advance.

there are still people, myself included, that frequently go to clubs and such just for FUN.

It is that bad. I regret spending 50 bucks on it.

Ok Palla, and how would I be expected to get it all right, just by information of text?

Before its answered, I should also not be forced to not say anything because I didn't know, since games gain different words from different mouths, which contort hte facts.

*points up to Palla and Firia*

I don't think there's a sure fire way for anyone to help you determine if you'll like SW:G...
Yes, you can take a lot of wounds. These wounds have to be healed. These wounds are healed in different ways.. Mind wounds(consider this your mana pool of sorts) being healed by entertainers in cantinas. Health wounds(and all their related stats, each type of damage has 2 stats related to it to determine regen rate and damage spending when doing actions that relate to that damage) are healed by medics, and in hospitals by medics.
Battle fatigue, a type of passive damage to your character (I think you can even die if you get enough of it), has to be healed in a Cantina. BF can be very hard on meleer's.

Will wounds annoy you? Yes. Is it worth it? That depends on if you like the game... but then that's what we're here to determine anyway. ;) The biggest gripe I've heard so far concerns wounds... and the fact people are irritated that they feel they need to interact(gasp) with other players to take care of that.

Graphics look great. The worlds are pretty true to their nature.. some places being very lush, while Tatooine for instance is rather barren.

NPC interaction could use some work. They seem mindlessly placed around the landscape, but hey things can't be perfect.

SW Universe - do you like it? Do you hate it? It'll affect your opinion. I think it's very SW'sy... droids walking around and the environment sounds add a lot.

Missions can be a bit boring... don't expect to roll up a super interesting mission at the local terminals, at least not at low skill levels.

Crafting is a TON of fun. At least to me... while training(grinding to some) up a crafting skill tree can be a bit tireing, it's worth it in my opinion, to say make and place your own small house.

Housing. It's in game, and while it's not everywhere, it's common enough to make the future player city system very interesting. If you care about things like that anyway.

Combat. Personally I like it.. maybe it's the nostalgic zzzzrrree of the ranged weapons. Melee, while really cool visually, seems to not be up to par with what most players want.. I guess. Or so I hear. The con system is interesting... how tough something is is determined by your combat skills and equipment. So, yes, conceivably a mob that you were blowing away easily with your pistol earlier, can kick you in the teeth if you let it.(ie no weapon on) So things don't seem so predictable
compared to other games.

Space travel? Not in yet, look for it next yearish.

Wanna be a Jedi? Prepare for the long, arduous task of figuring out HOW to become force sensitive.

If you try it, remember it's new.. all new MMORPGs take a while to get off their feet.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

/whew.

Yeah, I heard the whole Jedi thing is next to impossible... which is som'n I really like... don't get me wrong, I wanna be one... but the fact that I can't "just" become one really appeals to me... cus then, neither can any random power gamer...

Apparently there are like 100 different "must do"'s from which a certain number are randomly picked for your character on creation... so you have no idea what to do to become one, but you suddenly just open the "jedi-character" block, your current character can't become one, but you open a slot where a jedi can be made...

This means that even when a person DOES becomme a jedi, everyone else can't just copy him and become one too...
I'm givin the game a try, as I honestly love SW, so who knows... Maybe I'll get hooked... sorry to say tho, if I do...

I'l be leavin AO

I'll still tune in every night... but I won't be comin on world anymore...

This is only if the game get's me... I don't know, we'll see...

Well tahts the thing, while it seemed good on paper (A way to beat back every soul becomming a jedi), I am not sure why they want to have such a tough idea to it.

*Also I hear if you are a Jedi, your character who became one has two slots, non-jedi, and jedi. The Jedi has one life, and then is perma-gone*

Becomming a jedi should, instead be a gift from their Mods or ARKs to a great helpful player, than some sort of randomized thing.

What if to become a jedi, all you need to do is grab an item and bring it to someone?

What if all you need to do to become a jedi is face down the emperor, and do some sort of fantasticly impossible event?

Jedi have 3 lives... then they're perma' dead, so people who play them look after them...

The thing is, the slot they occupied will be opened upon death, so you can make a new one. Once you've opened the "Force sensitive" slot, you can always make a new char on it, just only one Jedi at a time...

A lot of people were afraid that they'd get ganked once they became Jedi; but people can't see what you are, just that you're another person in the crowd. And should you get attacked, the difference between a Jedi and a "mere" human (alien or what ever) would be so big, that if you didn't want to loose, you wouldn't...
Ofcourse a ton of people all attacking would eventually kill you, it's a Jedi, not a god, but one, or even a few, on one. The Jedi walks.

I honestly like this idea, it prevents power gamers from gettin Jedi horny, and also, they probably wont become a Jedi, as it's rumoured that the "Force sensitive" slot is tied to your actions:
This and this weapon might be good for a Bounty hunter, but if it's un-bountyhunter'ish you won't unlock the "force" slot any day soon...
So people who play "In character" should advance sooner than others...

So we'll see no jedi's called "Grid Trox" calling every one around them (and I quote)
"Lame A$$ n00b!!!"

And I honestly can't say I'm sorry if I never meet that guy (or anyone like him) again!

AO at the beggining was HORRID

My first guy Joshtua (NanoMage Soldier) was good... for 3 levels. Actually, Lynx checked his records and found out we leveled up to lvl 2 on our first guys together.

Okay does SWG as a game such, no, does the concept suck even though it's been rehased for the past 30 years, no.

I I love to hate on it because it star wars and I'm soo sick of star wars nerds, some are people I know personally.... yes...

There for Star Wars Galaxies suck... just my opinion, make your own.
