What They Failed To Tell Me...

Postby Katy » Wed May 21, 2003 10:41 pm

I badgered Tarryk 'till he let me read this on TD last sunday, but a couple people said to post it as well, so here it is.
The "What They Failed To Tell Me" list:

-- Bugs are real.
-- There ain't shiznit you can do about it.
-- If you are in the game for at least a 3 hour stretch, you will scream in frustration at least once.
-- The Subways are great... especially if you're on a dialup and feel like seeing a slideshow you have no control over.
-- If there's somewhere you arn't supposed to be able to go, you WILL find a way to get there before you realize the mistake.
-- Only mission in Galway if you want to run for hours then not be able to get into said mission.
-- Given enough time, too little sleep, and a nervous breakdown, lag can be funny.
-- Don't right click on it unless you know what it does.
-- Develop a sense of humor... quickly.
-- Sit in one place long enough and someone duel-wielding pillows will run by.
-- Help the n00bs, someday they'll be a higher level then you.
-- Don't laugh at an Atrox, they arn't all as gimped as Epicene.
-- Read the Tip of the Day, it's another good hint to forget later.
-- Do not point and laugh at the red creature that was trying to kick your ass before you ran into the supresion field, karma will come back to haunt you on that one.
-- Read the patch notes so you know it was a bug and not just your own crappy luck.
-- Do not smoke while missioning until you learn all the controls.
-- Thank people... a lot... not only is it good manners, but they may give you even more stuff.
-- Learn to laugh at irony.

 hehehe.

I'd smile, but I'm too lazy to make all those muscles in my face move. :P

I, again, missed last sundays Talk Deviant (I keep waiting for the DL's to appear, and since I don't wanna be a nag, I don't pester him about it. I just keep everything very low key and passive agressive. ;) Hint hint). I am a goob, I know. ^_^

But that's freakin hillarious, because it's true.

I remember my n00b days. One day I decided to sit down, and I think I was reading the skill chart descriptions while in Newland (back in the day, it used to be lagless you know. ^_^). Before I knew it, someone decked out in black and deep blue holding a pair of leets ran by. Thinking to myself "wth?" as i watched the man run away, I then cought 5 or 6 atroxes all holding a pillow or two run down the venue the leet man ran down.

Figuring it really wasn't none of my business, and that I'd maybe come to regret sticking my nose into the business of an atrox pillow mafia, I returned to my skill list.

But, I always watch my back now, and keep my eye out for scary occurances like that one.
Like a Punk.

I remember mine too. Seeing an Atrox run by in a bikini and thinking..."that aint right". Fortunately that isn't the first image I saw. :)

I'm a big fan of techno-goth/fantasy, HR Giger style future-hero artwork. The art of the wearables and the "aura" of Omni-1 was something I liked immediately.

Here are links to some of the artwork hanging in my room right now:

A famous fantasy artist named Brom did the first three (the signed ones). The painting of his that I like the most appears in the Magic: The Gathering card collection as the "Desolation Angel" card, but the painting itself is named "Black Wing".

The one above my bed (the techno gothic female) was done by Luis Royo. I have a couple more that I'll have to find the links to, as well as a Matrix theatre poster. :)

I don't like everything by Giger, certainly. Some of his stuff is very much a crazed and sickened mind scramble. But there are hints of his style in some of the AO art. Giger's best work is the most famous Alien-style stuff (in my opinion). The rest, I'm not all that big on.

Some neat Giger ones:

Blade Runner would be a movie that shows a good screen example of the type of future-art that attracted me to Omni-1 in the first place.
