Country and Hip Hop Music Sugesstions

Postby omgeveryone9 » Sun Jan 01, 2012 2:32 pm

Can anyone give me some good country music so that I can take this genre seriously, or maybe like it if it is that good. Also, if there is some hip hop artists that do not rap like Enimem, please write it in here also. Thanks!

Thanks Joanwilder and Shigy for those suggestions. I can't look into them much right now, since I am in China where internet is so hard to find and the internet cafes full of trash and s*** computers, but once I get back to Europe I can (finally) access good internet and be able to leave some spare time for listening to music from these artists.

You know, in the last decade or so, the lines between pop, hip hop and rap have gotten more blurred. One person will label a song pop and someone else might say it's rap. We run into that a LOT because people like to tell us our songs aren't the genre we say they are. But music isn't about black and white rules. It's such a creative art that if it sounds good to you, does it really matter if someone else thinks your favorite hip hop song is rap? Do we have to categorize all music under just one specific label? Of course not! We just listen and enjoy... or not enjoy. :D This is why I love that we're a variety station. We're not restricted to only playing music that fits into a specific category, which means we're exposed to lots of music we may not have chosen ourselves, and sometimes find unexpected things we like. ;)

Look up Chris Rene. He's an emerging pop/hip hop/rap artist, who I personally think is more hip hop than rap or pop. His style is kind of different and I like it. :)

I 100% agree with what you said about the confusion between Pop, Hip Hop, and rap. Probably I am just too much of a music junkie, but I always see those three as a dozen or styles (pop, RnB, grime, soul, gangster rap etc). Speaking of which, here are some artists from the mixed genre that are good. Might be able to make the category more popular in GSP and/or make some people take that genre seriously (there not fully mainstream btw).

Sway Dasafo (might know him if you saw his latest single rise to 19th on the BBC top 40 singles chart)
Lupe Fiasco (might know him from the Occupy Wall Street movement and the L.A.S.E.R manifesto)
Lemar
Baby Blue (British and so are the ones on the bottom)
Bruza
Pyrelli (forgot the spelling)
Bigz
Chamillionaire
DJ Turkish
Dcypha (group founded by DJ Turkish and Sway Dasafo)

If you do not enjoy their songs, I will not force you to like it. Try it and decide whether you like it or not.

P.S. I do not hate Enimem style rap, I just don't enjoy listening to Enimem's music as much as other songs.

I know a few of those artists! I like that type of music, so I'm going to check out the rest of them and maybe score some for my show. :D

Well, the next most mainstream one (at least in the UK) is Sway Dasafo, and also a very varied artist. From the funny "Sick World" ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tPuTmHQmR0 ) to the typical/stereotypical gunz and prostitutez "Silver and Gold" featuring Akon (
www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9v0f-GXABQ ), plus his signature "I am teh king" type of rap like this www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9xXbbzJtwA . Try him and his crew Dcypha first.

Well, I supported Sway for a few years now. Too bad his other great single Little Derek has no remixes and is not a good song to be remixes as techno :(. And btw which remix did you use (i mean like the remixes from Kill the Noise, Vato Gonzalez, Drooly's, and Zane's Death Valley) if you used them at all. Another just asking question.

I've played the original, and the Kill The Noise remix on my show I believe.
