They've stated that they want to release an expansion pack every year, starting with BC. I imagine we won't see this until Q1 of 08, knowing Blizzard.

Though, this expansion isn't exciting me very much, besides the whole "omg Arthas is so hot" thing.

The 'changeable hairstyles' thing is something I approve of. I'm SO tired of my mage's octopuslike twisty ringlets. Hopefully they'll let me change the colour (currently blonde/reddish mix) too. I did once get a glitch that made me just plain blonde...

Level 80 though... ugh. Leveling is such a chore. x.x And I hope it takes a while before this comes out... I've only just begun to sample the current 'endgame' content. Almost done with Karazhan, but I'm faaaaar away from facing Illidan yet. :p

And of course, as with almost all expansion packs, the 'best' items in the game will be outdone by the expansion pack items.

Rise of the Lich King /Wrath of the Lich King?

Com'on thats a blatant ripoff of Lord of The Rings: Rise of the Witch King
and I'm not even a LoTR fan.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/bat ... index.html

Heck, that armor/suit artwork looks almost like the Witch King even...
(a bit cooler though, and damn good artwork btw)

I expected Blizzard to be more original than this.

(PS! I'm assuming that WoW armor is that of a Death Knight?
Which makes a lot more sense, as it doesn't look muck like a Lich King to me really.)

Lord of the Rings: Rise of the Witch-King is something EA just made up to continue their BfMI series as an expansion.. it's not part of the Tolkien storyline or lore by itself. The Lich King and Arthas have been in Warcraft lore since the Warcraft series of games. Not so much rip-offs of eachother.. just coincidence and generalities.

The expansion will be good, I think :)

I left WoW after my guild got SSC cleared. We had TK and Hyjal and the Black Temple left to raid. But 5 hours a night, 5 nights a week, to spend weeks on single boss encounters, with the hope that a minor upgrade will drop, and maybe you will win it, it got to be too much. Kara was "fun" but after that, it becomes just plain silly. 25 man raids, where not a single person can make the tiniest of mistakes, or you wipe. You spend A LOT of gold to requip, buy new pots and food, etc for raids, and spend even more on repairing your gear. You simply can not do this, hold down a full time job, and compete. RMT (buying gold online) is an option that many, many use, and it is the "unspoken" rule of endgame guilds. When I blew through 3 months of gold I had made honestly in 2 weeks of raiding, you have to ask yourself if it is "worth it". To me, real money to buy fake money was not.

When BC came out, I could have fed myself on the tears of those that had raided MC, BWL, Naxx, all to replace those timesunk items with green quest items in the first zone. And don't even mention all the mote farming they introduced that requires massive timesinks to collect tradeskill, base materials.

I think they will be doing the same with this xpac, and it will drive more people away. Guilds were destroyed when BC came out, and things have been going downhill since, despite them saying "9 million players!". More rep grinding, more mat farming, yay! No thanks. My org in AO is over 4 years old. In 8 months of WoW I was in at least 6 guilds, most of which blew up.

At least in AO, when they released LE, they didn't invalidate all the highest level gear, most importantly the AI armors.

Woot for WoW ranting! (pulls plug)

I can agree, Davekillem.. Raiding has made me broke. Though, gold is fairly easy to come by with the daily quests and open quests that I still had in Netherstorm and SMV but once that runs out I am sure it will be quite a pain.

One thing that will tick me off a bit is replacing purples with greens.

PS. I call it research & development :D

Raiding is the most idiotic thing on the planet (apart from humans, that is) in general. In WoW it's an idiotic timesink for, as Davekillem said, little gain. In AO it's a pointbotted idiocy that defies logic. Hell, it's not even a challenge (Well, it wasn't when I quit, so that might have changed now). I've yet to find a game where raiding was actually fun.

Of course, everything gets boring if you do it enough, be it playing a game, having sex or whatnot...

Cautiously in agreement with this point :) the sticking point is where on the scale you place the 'Enough' marker.

True enough.

For me, the Enough-mark on Raids in AO was welded in place after one Tarasque-raid on my keeper, just as the Enough-mark got hammered into place after doing one Scarlet Monastery-raid in WoW :p

These days I only raid the fridge. Usually yields much much better loot, and then in the form of food & beer.

Damn, now I'm hungry again, too...
