Roleplay Forum Questions

Postby dustin » Mon Oct 09, 2006 10:02 am

Question :1)
in the past, when forum roleplay has been offered on sites,.. others were welcomed to intervene in that roleplay if it was an open thread. that would then send the participants on a journey for escape. this also MAJORLY promotes others activity on the site. so take that into consideration.

my question about this is, why don't you all do that? it's totally fun, and a great way to interact with others through your imagination.

Question 2)
if these are stricly singled out roleplay threads, what do you guys expect other than regular story tell writing? I mean are you looking for boring naratives, or what?

Question 3)
if any of you are okay with doing open story lines through posts, can you please impliment some kind of notation on the threads stating that it's an open thread and welcome to others to join in on your roleplay.

anyway thanks - dustin

The RP board on here does tend to be a bit... sporadic. And I guess that's because there's not so much structured roleplay witin GSP live shows, and the broadcasts that accompany them.

It's not that you don't get RPers coming along to GSP shows - there's both individuals and societies who will turn up and spend an entire night in character. And it's not that GSP listeners, or indeed DJs, don't roleplay, as many do (albeit sometimes as characters other than the ones you know and love) ...it's just that actual shows tend to be a mishmash of sort of everything. So you'll get someone talking one minute about how they just fell off the stage and how they hope they didn't ladder their fishnets*, and then straight after about how the dog is barking and they need to let him out into the garden. And strange crossovers such as the best way to sautee a leet in Dr Pepper.** Just check out the quote file thread... it's a scarily accurate representation of the GSP mindset ;)

I think a lot of the people who do use the Roleplay forums use it to play with ideas that they either haven't found a chance to use in game, or wouldn't be able to roleplay properly due to a clash with canon or some other impracticality, or just want to write out without playing. (Some of us like writing boring naratives. Some of us like reading them ;-) )

Speaking personally, the piece of writing I have up on there is an ongoing serialisation which is due a second chapter whenIgettimetowriteitproperly. (Which itself fits in with most of the above categories, as I couldn't role play it in game as it deals with what happens to the entire Rubi-Ka society when reclaim breaks down - although ask yourselves... what DOES happen when the servers are down? Eh? - plus I just like writing it as a narrative, and this is one of the best places I know to share it.) And while at some point I may run out of steam and welcome new ideas, right now progress is suffering from me having way too many ideas and not enough free time to beat all the irrelevant ones into a corner with a chair so I can get on with writing the next bit. (For anyone that even remembered I was writing it and hasn't yet gnawed their intestines out from sheer boredom waiting for chapter 2, it is definitely coming soon. Honest.***)

I can't speak for anyone else that has threads on there, but it's probably safest to leave other people's stories alone for now unless they invite you to join in. Obviously you're free to write what you like, but it's just kind of polite not to trample all over someone's pet project... which I assume you already know cos you have already asked so politely on here :)

All this doesn't mean you ~couldn't~ get a GSP themed roleplay arc going though, just that nobody has so far, or at least not recently (One year in November - yay!)... so if you want one, go start one! Or even something personal of your own that's open to everyone to play with, possibly with a big link in here announcing it****. There's a hell of a lot of creative people on here, and if it's intriguing enough, people may well dive right in and start playing.

I'd probably join in myself... if I have any time free from writing excuses as to why I haven't written chapter 2 yet...

*I am assuing, of course, that this part is in-character speech. It is entirely possible that some people listen to GSP whilst sat upon a stage and wearing fishnets...

** OK, nobody has ever mentioned a recipe like this, to my knowledge. But I for one would love to know if there is one...

*** Before the official launch of Lost Eden, at any rate. Probably. Definitely before Duke Nukem Forever...

**** Some people fear to tread in the Roleplay forums. Ther may be troxes without thongs there.

I think Myz summed it up very well. I mostly tend to stay away from the story style RP on forums because I don't really like my writing, I can always find something I would rather change or rephrase. I tend to do more RP ingame, and if I do manage to get around to it and have this event I want to get going...going, then you guys might get to see some cannon fishing up here for testing and the like. Or some ideas for my character I wouldn't really start RP'ing ingame.

As far as shows being RP, it's all up to what you want to do. I am in a Clan that, in RP, will have nothing to do with Omni-Tek...and I use to be in Omni-Pol which wouldn't want anything to do with the Clans in an RP sense. So I tend to mostly try and stay OOC when at a GSP event.
Though there have been times when I am around others that I know RP and I slip into character for a little bit.

thanks Lillath. i'll get on that in a few days. typically when i start a thread like that in forums, i have a lengthy background about what's going on, and let it take off from there with others posts to take off on something fun.

actually give me two weeks, and i'll have it going.
