According to CNN, the recent discovery of liquid explosives has caused the following announcement:

Due to recent "terror plots" airlines have now put into place the following restrictions on all flights:

No Liquids, to include:
All Aerosols, Gels, Toiletries, Soap, Mouthwash, Shaving cream, Toothpaste, Perfume, Deodorants, Cologne, etc.

So, it looks like we're going shopping for the essentials when we get there.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. How about they just ban flight alltogether instead ... *sigh*

I've been looking into this as well this morning. To my knowledge, these restrictions are only applying to overseas flights to and from the United States. However it would not be surprising if domestic flights are following the same restrictions.

Rest assured, however, that airlines will very likely take this restriction into account and should at least be offering free water on your flight. It's definitely something worth inquiring about when your flight nears.

I read up on it and it only applies to flights to and from the UK.

From what I can tell all other flights are unaffected by the no liquid policy.

I've just been told conflicting bits of information within the station here that even domestic american flights are running the liquid ban currently.

WARNING: If it turns out I'm going to have to endure a 13 hour flight without being allowed to take a book or two on board, I may be a complete gibbering wreck by the time I arrive...

Unless your books are liquid, I don't think that's gonna be a problem.

These things, however, ARE going to be a problem, if they are prohibited on my flight:

• Glasses and sunglasses, but not cases.

• Contact lens holders, but not lens solution.

I can't exactly use (or transport) my contact lenses without solution in the case. I also just bought new glasses and there's no way I'm going to put them in my luggage without a case.

And again, so far it only affects flights going from the UK to the US (yes I know you're UK Myz ) . And from what I hear they will only enforce this policy for a short while. It will probably be gone in a week.

I am lucky to be flying in to the US from Copenhagen, Denmark. And my airline has not published anything yet about prohibitations regarding carry on.

As far as I can tell, UK flights are currently limited to a small purse or wallet, travel documents, and any essential medical items. No other hand luggage. I'm hoping it will change, but a cynical part of me thinks that the airlines would love to take the opportunity to limit hand luggage as much as possible - less weight = less fuel = less cost to them but no necessarily to us.

I'm also wondering how no fluids fits in with essential medical supplies - my Dad has to take liquid insulin with him when he flies. I have no idea how much liquid explosive you'd require to cause significant damage on a plane, but it might be feasible. Mind you, in-flight security messures have never exactly been logical - I still remember when nailfiles and tweezers were banned from hand luggage as they were potential weapons, but business class passengers were still receiving sharp metal cutlery with their in-flight meals. Apparently you can't possibly be a terrorist and rich...

I reckon it's all a smokescreen anyway. They're ~really~ worried about snakes...

Diabetic supplies were specifically mentioned as being allowed. Although, I heard one report that said "if they can be proven as such". But don't quote me on the accuracy of that. It seems that every report on this thing has it just slightly differently.

From the TSA Website:

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is implementing a series of security measures, some visible and some not visible, to ensure the security of the traveling public and the nation's transportation system.

NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE. SUCH ITEMS MUST BE IN CHECKED BAGGAGE.

This includes all beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency

Exceptions: Baby formula and medicines, which must be presented for inspection at the checkpoint.

Beverages purchased in the boarding area, beyond the checkpoint, must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.

Passengers traveling from the United Kingdom to the United States will be subject to a more extensive screening process.

The TSA Website is what we primarily need to look at as far as what is allowed, and what is not allowed. At least for those of us flying in country.

Get these mutha farkin snakes off my mutha farkin plane. It's actually cooler here in Atlanta than it was in Oklahoma, and much hotter than it was in Hawaii...see ya at DC. Hope it holds up until the 1st.

Edit: And ya, Airport security sucked this morning. Liquids, gels, etc....including toothpaste. Just pack all that crap in your checked luggage and it's no biggie. I'd suggest bringin no carry-ons at all, as it just slows down the metal detector line. Flying naked might be an option. I attempted to schedule a flight plan out of TIA to HJA, but there were long ass wait times for a clearance....and my Citation doesn't have that kind of fuel, so I just stuck with commercial flights.
