I don't usually follow football, but I was forced to do a predictions sheet et work. OK, not forced at gunpoint, but everyone else that works there is either (a) a aports journalist (b) a football fanatic or (c) both so I thought it'd be funny if I managed to do better than any of them.

I did put out an internet appeal for help filling in my predictions, but it appears I don't know any football fans - I got 3 suggestions: All the teams will spontaneously combust, Trinidad and Tobago to win, and world cup cancelled due to alien invasion. (Out of the 3, alien invasion was probably most likely - I nearly scrawled that across my form instead of filling it in.) In the end, I looked up some odd and used them to make up pretty patterns and little stories on the page.

When I got into work yesterday I found I had predicted the winners of all but one of the weekend's games correctly, and was leadinf the challenge. We had the afternoon's game on in the office - I predicted Australia would win 3-1 but they spent most of the game 3-0 down. They then scored 3 times in the last 10 minues. People started looking at me funny and asking if I had any hints for lottery numbers.

(I got the USA game completely wrong last night - I had them winning 3-2 - but I got Italy spot on as well...)

So if it turns out I do have spooky psychic powers, it'll be Argentina beating Holland in the final, with Italy third (out to Holland) and Brazil fourth (out to Argentina)

(I picked Argentina in a deliberate act of vengence against the nasty people who made me spend even an hour of my life thinking about football - England fans hate Argentina even more than they hate Germany. I also had them knock out England in the quarter finals for good measure.)

It just goes to show, you should always ignore reality and make it up as you go along ;-)

Germany, Brazil or France have the best overall odds of being the champs this time around...

I'm hoping England will win ofcourse, but after that dismal game they put on last, I don't see them passing this round, and moving on to the next...

I'm surprised you guys even watch it tho... But then again, I suppose you represent a vast minority... Football never really was your sport, was it...

I'm kind of hoping that Croatia could make up a little surprise. Holland is also a team I'm wishing a good tournament.

Australia is definitely getting my symphaties, second time in world cup and the've started really well

Not sure really. I mean they don't have Brett Favre so what chance does any of the teams really have :P

I used to not be a fan of any sports but I got caught up in the fever for it, though perhaps I only enjoy watching it with others during class. I just root for whoever strikes me in the right way. It was australia the first time, then Korea. :)

*Cough* It's called football *cough*

Appart from that, Chelsea Head hunters have an international ban from showing up in any country... (If it was possible, including their own) so those are by all records the sickest bunch around... But I think England takes the bill for hooligans on average.

Most countries keep hoping England doesn't qualify. Cus then they're "fans" stay at home...

Must admit tho, I'd rather watch Ice Hockey, or Rugby League... But hockey doesn't show much in DK, and league never leaves Aussie Tv... Which blows...

Only watch footy when the WC is on... It's the only time, when the atmosphere is not that bad. People unite on a slightly different level when that's going on. But ok, football is religion here... So I guess they would...

I love playing soccer (sorry, Oddy, I speak american, and football is quite another thing hehe), but man is it ever impossible to watch. And that's coming from someone who occasionally enjoys watching golf.

When you're three hours in and the score is still zip-zip, it's time to re-evaluate the terms of the competition. :)

The only time it excites me is when I see people get tripped or taken out by other players. But seeing people run back and forth for a few hours kicking a ball just isn't my thing.

I've never watched NASCAR ever. Only time I see those cars are when I'm watching clips from other shows showing the crashes...the highlight of every race :P
