A little more about the recent character hacks on AO, I'm sure most of you have probably read it by now, but from the Life on Atlantean thread:

Funcom is aware of the unusually high number of hacked account reports, and are looking into it as best as possible.

In the meantime, if you believe your account has been hacked or have any other issue with your account, please send an e-mail to account@anarchy-online.com reporting this.

A majority of the hacking incidents have been caused by those who leave the password saved into the Anarchy Online client itself or people who had given the information from an account.

Once an account is accessed by a party other than the owner of the account then the damage to the account is done fairly quick before it is even noticed and by the time it is petitioned then the user on the account is usually logged off already.

We are, however, proactive in investigating these reports of accounts being compromised and we do deal directly with the account owner only on taking care of the account which is why we state that you need to mail account@anarchy-online.com with the details including any items that are NoDrop that have been deleted.

Account information has always been considered private so when we do deal with these issues then they will only be discussed with the person listed on the account and is why we direct petitioners to have the victim petition or mail account@anarchy-online.com so we can maintain privacy on accounts.

Please also be aware that no ARK or Funcom employee will ever ask you for your password. For security of your account please make sure that your client does not have your password saved into it and never give out your password to any other person as this is the best deterrent for keeping your account safe. Please also make sure not to download any software that may be potentially unsafe as it may contain trojans, spyware, keyloggers, and other programs to gain access to information on your computer.

Having software that will allow you to download programs, music, etc such as P2P programs like Kazaa, eMule, Grokster, and the other programs is a good way to invite trojans and other programs that will intercept data being transmitted through your computer.

I've gotten my account back and it's in working order for now thanks to some GMs. They gave me 8 IPRs to work with so I could reset a few things to get back the Ip I lost to the person that stole my account for a bit. Unfortunately, map nav couldn't be reset so I lost those IP. I got most of my own stuff back on last night and I'm going through the process of replacing what was lost and to contact the people I hadn't contacted after my account was stolen the first time. Also, VE's Ql 300 HQ and grid house were returned by a GM as well as a small ECM. Now we just need to work on the party we have planned for the 24th (Yes we're still holding it!) and with GSPs help it's going to be a blast!

I am glad to hear that they are getting things back in order for you, nasty buisness.. nas-tee.. it's a shame about that mapnav thing.. people that go out to deliberately spoil someone else's enjoyment of the game, should be taken out.. and shot.. no, that's too good for them.. how about a 'bout of necrotising fasciatis (or however it is spelt)
