I think this is a very cool idea and I really appreciate the support (thank you!!), but with a couple potential barriers.

A) We wouldn't be able to post it or use it publically if it contains commercial music, and

B) We couldn't send you any songs if you didn't already own them.

Not sure if this is true or not but a good friend of mine said that using just 20-30 seconds of the music doesn't breach any copy right laws. It is why alot of radio stations use them for "bumper" music.

Still doing some research on this to verify.

Tarry, I have seen ALOT of flash vids and even real life vids (non-professional) that use copyrighted music, and like mire says, about 30 seconds of them.

Anyways, I will look into the whole legality thing, but I am still set on doing the flash.

The difference is some joker on the net who made a flash vid doesn't give a flying crap about legality. GSP does. They stream over the Net and are somewhat visible. If they step over the legality line somebody might step on them so they are very careful. The RIAA sued a teenage girl from New York (or was it Jersey) you think they'd forgive GSP?

lesson: just cause some idiot on the internet did something does not make it A) legal B) smart C) worth a waste of a domain name

Hiya Joshuwa, glad to have you aboard. :) Some things to keep in mind besides the whole music legality issue:

1) Web designers are usually pretty picky about media and if it fits with the overall design of the site, especially if it's the first thing someone sees. Xtrophic is GSP's awesome website guru, and he'd ultimately be the one to decide to use whatever you might create.

2) You might have seen in-game billboards around the cities...Funcom created one for GSP a while back. Out of the 10 or so DJ faces on that billboard, only 2 or 3 are still in GSP. Point being that using media that requires eventual updating is also something website designers may not be too keen on. I would think the Flash would have to be redone every time the active roster changed (and, not having any knowledge of Flash, I have no idea if it's something that could be "redone" or scrapped and made anew, but you get the picture).

Maybe make a sample movie with a few of the DJ's and post it in the Pictures forum? Just a thought...see ya around. :)

Well, actually what I was thinking instead, was doing some sort of long video (see my video post in the Pictures forum) as opposed to the site intro thing.

I dont know, I was in a creative mood at the time, they come and go.. so bear with me when they come around :P

Whatever I do, I will be sure to do it along with the templates and such of the main site.

Being a webdesigner/master myself I know the issues of mismatched stuff and yada yada.

As for that, I understand that as well, which is why I have revised my ideas and stuff.

But in reply to what you said, I have seen RESPECTABLE sites, such as GSP, use comercial music in their video intros. Hell, if I were going to continue with the flash thing, I would be willing to go straight to the companies/artists and ask for permission.

Just to clear that all up.

Could someone lock this topic please?
