Low quality stream

Postby Ms.Ice » Tue Aug 02, 2005 9:55 am

ooh where, ooh where has it gone?

i hoped i would never need it, but... after making the final move last weekend i now begin my sentence. Dialup for 3-5 weeks while Neuf Telecom is waiting to hook up out DSL. Why does it take 3-5 weeks? i wish i knew.

But one thing i know for sure... Ka is crap without GSP! i tune in... i try and try, sometimes i stay an hour or more buffering like every 3 seconds. i could hear Vel and Foxy and Danyoo talking... little sputters of speech. Now Jairyn is live and playing some music i really like, and i am so frustrated i could scream!

i was tuned to GSP before i even came to Ka! Now i don't know what to do without it.

*pouts*

FRAK!!!

*chuckles* It was Trist who was on with Veld and Foxy :)

And as for the low quality stream, Jair explained it earlier tonight.

Apparently they stream in at a high bitrate, and in order to broadcast a low quality stream, they have to use software to recode the stream to the lower bit rate for people with dialup. I think Jair said that the software they were using and the server were not working well together, so they nixed it.

Bummer you're havin issues Meta. :(

It was also barely being used when we did have it (the lowbit). :(

Indeed, we only had like 2 to 5 regular listeners on it before we took it down, and one of them only listened to it because they were afraid the highbit would cause lag (which of course is silly).

If it were easy to put up, garaunteed we would, but the way shoutcasting works makes it VERY difficult to send the same stream at two different bitrates. It was unstable and went down all the time even when we had it working. :/
