I think by "funniest show on television", he meant funniest contemporary show on television. Besides, the comparison is moot, it's like saying old Metallica is better than The Beatles. A) Different styles, B) Different periods in the evolution of music (or in this case, humor)

One can not contest that python and red dwarf are among the all-time greats, but as of this moment I'd rather watch Scrubs. So, as of this moment, Scrubs 4 teh win. :P

I will try to keep the flaming to a minimum, but there may be some bursts of fire here and there.

>Ok, ok, easy now. Scrubs is good. No doubt. But it's not the best. The >best have already been, and they will never be beaten! Simple as that.

Well.. The best is now and is becoming progressively better and they might be beaten but they represent a milestone in situtational comedy and have surpassed all their competition. My rethoric beats yours hands down so the score is now 1-0 to me.

>Python.

As an avid monthy python fan I take offense that you just call them python. The title of their television performances are Monthy Pythons Flying Circus. They have also done other things which i will refer to later in this omnipotent post.

>Red Dwarf.

Granted they were one of my favorite shows when I was a kiddadle. But they as Monthy Python come from the stale english class of humour. It's fun. But watch it today and you notice some odds and ends that seem badly timed or just not that fun anymore. The same effect can be had if you are up to date on series and you see some early episodes of sex and the city. Their timing and theming is a little aparte (not outdated, but not as valid as you would like them to be)

>Black Adder.

Rowan atkinson is a very funny man but if we (for the sake of validating my own argument :) compare against scrubs the Black Adder portion of Atkinsons career is too burlesque for my tastes.

>These are the hight of comedy.

They are at least the comic pioneers and the people who all started this. And if you are willing and able we can start a comemorative thread about british humour. There is so much from that little island that I watched in my childhood years that cracked me up and set the bar for my later enjoyment of comedy.

Shows worth mentioning in addition are

Rab Mc Nesbit (psychotic scotsman that made headbutts a punchline)
Hale And Pace (I still today remember their take on a lovely bunch of cocounts)

>It's not just jokes, it's bloody smart humour. Many people think python >is all about slap stick. It just goes to show that you don't get it at all. >This is intelligent humour on a massive scale. Sure, there is slap stick, >but every single scetch, has some sort of historical hinting and meaning. >They were all highly educated. It's such a shame no one seems to know >anything about Python except that "John Clease was in it, wasn't he?".

If my application ever gets through the GSP burecracy mill I will dig out my old Monthy Python albums and celebrate these comic geniuses.

One of the high points is that there is a punchline about "the Trondheim hammerdance wich is held every 25 minutes in the town of Trondheim where the old ladys are hit upon the head with [sticks] of knödel.

I live in trondheim and that album was released early 80's or what not, and that is also another star on the sleeve of the happy englishmen.

So I have my research and my heritage right where it belongs.

>So while Scrubs is hilarious. Family Guy equally so, they just can't compete. I'd gladly watch them all tho ^^

But I still think that scrubs and family guy are funnier than python just for the fact that they have gone further and hold a higher quality than the old scool guys. Like Tarryk said. It's all about evolvement.

(And yes, I was raised on Python. Bottle fed one might say. So what if I took a little tiny bit of brain damage from over exposure. It's done me good I say! GOOD... NI!)

Ecki ecki pathang bazzom boing!

>For the record, if you disagree, you're a turnip! (Get that, and I'll be highly impressed)

Wookie nipple pinchie.

In conclusion, I feel that it is too bombastic to say that the older shows are better than the new ones. If you have watched every episode and special of scrubs you learn to appreciate the hard work and the talent of the people behind it. And it's in no way lesser than those who came before.

But yes the old shows were fun and I would still watch them and laugh. I just thing that scrubs and our days comedians have evolved from that primeordial soup and become something to be admired and enjoyed for the complex and innovative writing.

Also worth mentioning is that scrubs is not just about the ha ha's. They also have some very moving scenes and that sets them apart from the happy go lucky shows that have been and gone.

The snowball rolls on. =D

I so dearly love that thing ^^
I'd argue further, but you haven't paid for an argument, and I refuse to do so in my spare time, besides, it goes without saying what Python refers to. We don't say Coca Cola either tho' do we...
And Tarryk mate, as much as I can see the logic in your argument, I'm afraid that logic isn't on the agenda today, which, inevidably makes what you said wrong. Sorry mate, no hard feelings eh? Tell you what, I'll buy you a pint to compensate for your efforts.
*That or we can cancel our little bet regarding AvP and forum titles. It would be rather embarassing for you if we went through with that bet... Or have you still not seen the movie?*

You guys should see the new Family Guy movie.
Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story!

I've never laughed so hard in my life, I feared that it would feel like a few episodes slapped together. But it's actually a fully developed story arc.
And...you..should...see it when it comes out in...september in the states on DVD...*cough*

I'll just hide over here now.....*tries to resist the temptation of hitting play yet again*

Damn, I'll never get the image of Stewie shawing his nut sack out of my head. *cracks up*
