I don't know if any of you live in London but I do know that some live in the UK. Everyone Okay?
Why give flowers to anyone? They wilt, they die the dry out.

My brother works in London and commutes for Cambridgeshire so had a nice morning of worrying if he was ok... apart from that ok here but then I'm 300 miles away.

It's because of the bombings.... there have been 43 deaths from what I have heard so far, and my Trainer at the Job Seeker thing I am a part of had to make the sick joke off, "I just heard that there are 43 jobs going in London"....

People always make lame jokes about serious events. It's sick really.

ok wasn't going to do this as I'm worried I'll come off looking like a cold heartless b****** which I'm not, but I kinda disagree. Granted joking about the victims is pushing it a bit far but the ability to joke about something as bad as this is one of the reasons I'm proud to be British is that we can and will make jokes about these things.

We will not bow down we will not admit defeat. We're the guys that in an action film, surrounded by bad guys, outnumbered outgunned and outclassed will turn to our partner and say "you take the little one, I'll take the big one"

And it's not just people outside of it with no connection to the incident it's the ones in the middle of it, the ones worried bout their friends and loved ones.

Taken from http://www.livejournal.com/users/tyrell/154027.html

The people of London have responded to all this exactly the way I always imagined we would; with humour, strength and defiance. I've never been more proud to be British.

Actually, the ability to find off-the-wall humor in extreme situations is what makes being a Rescue Worker bearable as well. I was a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT-B/Rescue Diver for 4 years(in addition to my full-time job and being a military Reservist)....you have to remember, these people are just normal people like everyone else. Blood and/or atrocity still stirs feelings, but they're not allowed to show it for professional reasons. It *does* get slightly less horrible after a couple years, but not much(didn't for me, anyway).

Joking back at the Fire Station with your buddies after a particularly hairy call is just a way of coping; basically, a defense mechanism. But the joking is always done in private(back at the Fire Hall), and NEVER in the public eye. If you're married, you can't share it with your spouse either because of Patient Confidentiality reasons.
Eww, there's a Camel Spider in the fridge and it ate all the bagels!!
