Not sure what country your in Rowen, but i just went to a Ren Faire in France. And though it was different than what i am accustomed to seeing there, it was still fun.

(and most people go to RenFaire's because it's living breathing medieval entertainment, and because Renaissance period castles in Texas are fairly rare. It costs $6 to go to RenFaire, and closer to $2000 to go to the 'nearest' medieval castle)

My comment wasn't aimed at people in the US doing the Renne faire thing - they're relatively entertaining when it's the only way you could really FEEL like you're in the middle ages.

My comment was aimed at Row, who lives in jolly ol' England, where it isn't a $2000 vacation to see a castle and enjoy the history first-hand.

The castles still don't have the living breathing entertainment thing going for them, though. I travelled to castles all over Europe and I never saw a joust, the Mud Show, people in costume, jugglers, falconeers, swordsmen, or gypsies. One of my favorites reasons to go to RenFaire (I worked at the Texas RenFaire teaching Celtic dance for 3 years in college) is that you get to see how people entertain themselves when TV and videogames aren't around. Live shows, singing, dancing, and drunk men on horseback make it a very different experience. Going to castles is more like browsing a museum (which is generally exactly what it is) than actually experiencing anything medieval.

There we go FoxyJama just explained why i'd prefer a RenFaire to a castle.

I've been to plenty of castles, forts etc and while they are interesting they are usually just ruins or museums. Having said that however sometimes they put on days where the staff (and the staff only) wear costumes and they show us some falconing.

I did go to a castle once that did the whole tournement deal, jousting, swordplay, knights in armor, falconing, the works. But that happens about once every 5 years and you couldn't join in with the costumes and such, you just watched, still cool though.

Mom: "oh look, the Mud Show is starting"
Child: "Yeah!" Front row!"
Mom: "Enjoy! *snickers*
Child" *comes back plastered in mud* That was fun!
Mom: "You are a complete mess, lets go get you a clean t-shirt"

In the interest of getting this thread back on track, here's some pictures of me, taken while I was playing Everquest a while back.

I had my hair cut last week, it's getting to be summer so my hair is getting a little more fiery. It's cut really long in the front and super short in the back, I might get some pictures next week.
