Onstar and Satellite Radio Take Nose Dives

Postby Tarryk » Mon Jan 24, 2005 4:23 pm

We're currently going through the first major renewal year for both Onstar service (you know the one, push a button in your car and someone answers to save your butt...which you could have done with your cell phone) and satellite radio (you know the ones, XM Satellite and Sirius, the new yet crumbling home for Howard Stern and Pam Anderson).

What does this "renewal year" mean?

This means that nearly all of the millions of dumbasses who got these services as extra options in their cars a year ago are now getting letters in the mail saying "renew this server for only $170.00 a year!" And those newly-enlightened people are mostly saying "Um...bite me."

Let us bow our heads for a moment silence for two of the biggest blunders in communications corporate history since the collective anal intrusions of the "e-commerce" year.

Catcha later, Satellite & Onstar. Can't say I'll miss you, because you both suck.

I KNEW it was a dumb idea to get that thing.. I'm so glad I didn't. w00t for doing something smart for a change!

Gonna be funny to see Howard Stern flop when he moves to Satalite Radio though... Wonder if we'll hear an announcement that he changed his mind? :)

Little correction there, I typed "not getting letters", should've been "now getting letters".

But yes, in any case. If anyone has Onstar dialer and/or Satellite radio options in their car because it was an option, I'd recommend not renewing. Don't worry the stock market won't crash, but I'd sell those stocks, too. :)

I guess most people don't like On-Star, while others swear by it.

My father has been using his On-Star in his Avalanche, and he loves it. He has used it in a variety of circumstances and he swears by it, and he as been paying the 174$ for it.

Granted the man travels quite a deal with his truck, went down into the States numerous times and was able to navigate in unknown territory with little effort and no map.

He could get a pre-pay cell phone and make sure it's got minutes on it once every three months and pay about 1/5th that. And cell phones come with this awesome luxury of not being bolted into the vehicle, and you can dial more than one number with them. :)

As long as BlondeStar doesn't go out of business. That's a requirement for models everywhere.

I have XM and I love it, for only 9.95 a mo? Hell yeah for this switchfront stuck in BFE where the only radio station is f'n country. Don't get me wrong, I like a lil country but not continuous. I'm not lucky as some who are in cities where better or at least DECENT stations exist. yes yes I can burn cds all I want which I still do, but their Techno/Elec/Dance stations bring upon me some new artists that I would have NEVER heard of til then. So I'm all about that :) And muh 80's w00t lol
