Comics

Uhh, hey. I'm not sure if it's discussed much, but I thought I'd start a topic on it. Comics.

I used to be a collector. I have a lot of Star Wars comics when I was really into the Old Republic series, and a few others that are good. I have a lot of Spider-man stuff, when Spiderman was cool (before the clone crap). I was collecting a lot of marvel comics too at one point, but thanks to the Onslaught series (which spanned across all their titles), I gave up on collecting.

Well, I'm back again. This Constantine movie, despite how good or bad it will be since it is different from original comic book character, has re-opened my eyes to the world of comic books intended for adult entertainment.

Vertigo seems to be pretty good about it, and series that I didn't like as a kid for whatever reason are on the tops of my list now for collecting of back issues and such. Hellblazer, Sandman, Preacher, and a few others are what I'm after. Pretty cool books, and interesting stories with them. Also some kick ass artwork on Preacher, looking forward to pulling those in.

Anyway, are there any other stories that I'm missing on my radar? These are the ones I've found that interest me from DC Comics. Has Marvel gone beyond the soap opera mentality with their stories? Is there anything worth reading there again? How about some other series from other publishers? I like Dark Horse, but not sure what to check out there.

Give into your inner comic geek!

I collected Spiderman for ages as well, but i loved the clone storyline, i thought it gave a deeper emotional and philosophical depth to the already deep characters. I mean its not as if long time readers didn't see it coming, we all knew it was gonna happen since the Jackal first cloned Spiderman and Spiderman dropped the defeated "clone's" body down the smokestack.

I hear ya. A rather poor way to cut down the amount of superheroes Marvel have. Rather sucked a bit to just kill most of them off without too much fight.

Plus, then they re-released them all in new #1's and such. It just got really weak.

Don't get me wrong. I have all of the clone stuff, the original with the Jackal and also the six issue series later on. I thought it could have been better thought, and it seemed to be an excuse to bring out another spideman title, that being the Scarlet Spider.

Yeah, I understand what they were trying to do with Onslought, and that was basically trying to give each of their storylines a new beginning but GAWD did they ever fuck up.

They did it right with the Ultimates (which is amazingly good, and good), but as for the rest eh! Personally DC has made imporvements in some of its series, other of its series have been going down the toilet - and have been for some time (i.e. superman should have stayed dead!).

Batman is better than ever - so is all of the spinoffs (Azreal's final book was weak though).

In the end though I'm more about books - I rather get the books than have to by each individual comic.

Ps. the new Lady Death is really good and actually gives her a personality and *gasp* makes her seem mor ethan just a really pale woman with big boobs.

I kinda agree there, however The Scarlet Spider didn't have a very long run. It was kinda cool to see a more inexperienced Spiderman learn take the webs.

As for Batman, he's getting better, i feel.

See, I never did get into comics at all. But the other day, one of my friends dropped a 'Dogwitch' graphic novel in my lap and told me to have a look. I ended up in stiches for a good half hour.

Has anyone else read any of this? It's absolutely hilarious!
