Not much I can say without ruining anything.
This is a fan fest. IMO there is more predator focus/love. (understandable really, only 2 pred moves but um 5 was it? alien movies.)
And how odd it may sound, I think that the director was bold in the explaining on how/why the Preds AND Aliens fit in with a today time periode. (remeber all alien movies are in the future, the latter one way in the future)
He has managed to avoid stepping on either of the two franchises time periodes really.
The ending surprised me, but I can't hint as to what, some might expect it. some may not.
In a way I think you'll love it as Anderson seem to be a fan of the myriad of Predator comics and stories outside the movies etc as well.
As I said it's a fan movie, Alien fans may may have wanted more maybe,
but there is a focus on Human and Predators.
Oh and as Tarryk said, a predator is indeed quite dangerous to an alien with his weaponry/tech. But you'll be surpised to see what a predator can do without his full arsenal, altough it iis foolish to go hand to hand combat with a Alien even for a Pred. (young brash/foolish young Predators ya know their just reached adulthood is my guess
I won't disclose how that one particular hand to hand fight turns out. (and no don't worry, this is in the middle of the movie so it's not the end
let me just say that as a fan movie Anderson succeeded. as a hollywood movie hmmm, don't think it'll brake any records but it should do "ok".
If anderson decides to make a sequel I hope that he puts it further into the future, maybe closer to the AvP2 game time periode.
Just like Alien is somethig totaly different from Predator,
and predator is something totally differet from Alien (except that hommage near the end of Predator 2 that is)
Alien vs Predator is it's own thing in a away altough, in a way it COULD work nicely as Predator 3 as well imo.
Which I applaud Anderson for, I'm not sure a heavily Alien focused movie would have worked that well, at least not in a AvP setting.
Another Alien movie is needed to "set things straight" before more focus on the Alien franchise can be made.
That is not to say that AvP movie doesn't have aliens in it, it does, ALOT of it. and enough to give you the chills.
and he even recreated some of that original Alien movie creepyness in that you (and definetly the characters poor peeps lol) don't truly see the enemy, they are only aware that evil itself is hunting them, and they can't escape the place they are in.
I'd better stop here hehe! I've allredy seen in *cough*bittorent*cough*,
but I'll def get the DVD release when it is released and I sure hope it's packed with goodies as well. altough the copy I found was just a telecine it was quite good surprisingly.
As a last note about the movie itself, it def has rewatchable value as there are information and details that you may miss the first time. anderson is a Alien fan and a Predator but also a Alien vs Predator fan.
I just wish I had read more Alien vs Predator stories as I'm sure there are even more "details" I've missed.
To be honest, this movie easily beats Resident Evil 2. and thats only on a directiing level, bring Aliens and Predators into play and even the toughest zombies would stay clear
Oh! A final final note!
Anderson has managed to keep the respect for the Aliens, i.e he has not ruined what they are or do. He doesn't add anything to the "Alien" knowledge nor remove or clash with existing info.
Same with the Predator, he doesn't clash with existing stuff, nor remove. but he does ADD more to the Predator's info. a lot that I suspect makes sense if you've read Predator stories or Alien vs Predator stories.
We learn quite a bit more about them. I almost lied about the Alien thing. he does add something there too but not the Aliens, but the human side of Aliens storyline. Mr. Wayland in particular.
If anderson make a AvP2 movie I hope he steals a few ideas from the AvP2 game story, and explore the Spacejockeys quite a bit more as the Alien franchise that HAD that opportunity didn't do it. (after Alien 2 the spacejockeys practicaly got forgotten, while in Alien vs Predator stories they are covered quite a bit afaik).
So thumbs up to Anderson for Alien vs Predator and hoping for a sequel (the potetial is def there due to the ending *ducks incoming flames* don't worry nothing spoiled), and Soldier wasn't that bad I liked it really. esp as Soldier fit in as a sorta sequel or side story in the Bladerunner universe. (which may or may not have been intentional, but who knows as Anderson def seem to be a fan of many genres and is a heavy Bladerunner fan too afaik).
