I got skills... now what?

Okay, I've been into computers all my life. I've learned a couple of programming languages, a few real languages. What does this get me? I'm too young to go to work for some corporation, or to start my own business. People have told me to join online communities, to work on projects there, and I have, but still I am led back to my idle state.

People have told me not to worry too much about being able to get money from my skills yet, but I am flat broke when it comes to money that I'm not saving for something. I live too much in the future.

I'm not really asking for advice, so much as just needing someone to gripe to. Sorry if you were disappointed by this post.
