Good Story

Postby Tacz » Sun Apr 04, 2004 4:57 pm

Well, I got this in an e-mail, so I cant tell if it is true or not, but who cares:

The following scene took place on a BA flight between Johannesburg and London.

A white woman, about 50 years old was seated next to a black man. Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess.

"Madam, what is the matter", the hostess Asked. "You obviously do not see it then"? she responded. "You placed me next to a black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat".

"Be calm please", the hostess replied. "Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another place is available". The Hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later. "Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the economy class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is also no seat in the business class. All the same, we have one seat in first class".

Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued. "It is not usual for our company to permit someone from the economy class to sit in first class, however, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone sooooo disgusting". She turned to the black man and said. "Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please bring your hand luggage because a seat awaits you in first class".
At that moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded.

This is a true story which is not usually told. If you are against racism, please forward this on.

While I essentially appluad the story's intent, I have to say it has the sound of am entirely "written" story as opposed to a completely true account of a real occurrance.

Sadly...As awesome as this story is, I find it hard to believe that this would ever take place. We are still a long long way from anything even remotely resembling a fair and even world...

I hope this story true or false reaches enough people to make even a few stop and think.

I'm kind of a Snopes junky if ya didn't already realize. So yes, this story has floated around in several different versions, but none the less, a nice story.

Hey, it's only a hate crime if you're in the majority. What I mean is, racism doesn't apply the same way to a minority. Make sense?
You probably won't hear an african-american being called a 'racist pig.'

It's views like that that keeps racism a reality. Don't justify your actions based on population. Racism is racism, and it's stupid from any angle.

Racism is, indeed, racism, but the thing that gets me is that races other than white are allowed to make fun of white people. Always hearing things like "white boy" or something along those lines. For some reason, people think it's okay to be racist towards white. Excuse my lousy wording, it's really really late.
These are the moments we'll remember for the rest of our restless lives.

Think of it this way. The Caucasian race spent a good century and a half (and more if you want to grind into some details) oppressing, enslaving, and torturing people based solely on the color of their skin.

Today: the occasional stand-up comedian makes white jokes. Ruling? Sit the hell down and eat your pride, since your ancestors obviously couldn't. Besides, the jokes ARE funny sometimes.

Hate crime and true racism still exist out there though, and there isn't a color barrier on them, there's plenty of hate in all groups. Trust me when I say that the media has been feeding you more of one side than the other, and your observation of imbalance is innaccurate at best. And so long as people try to justify who's more "in the right" based on such things as population and media, the most pointless form of hate will continue to exist and thrive. So I suggest putting such a notion out of your head completely, unless you like feeding the monster.

Besides, what's wrong with jokes about "White boys"? The nice thing about comedy is that when it's coming from a non racist angle, comedy can essentially be color blind in a certain respect. Comedy generally is making fun of something, be it a situation, religion, person, idea, race, mother in law, etc. And despite the fact that in this day and age the PC Police have pretty much taken over, not everyone remains under their jurasdiction.

Good example is the show Tough Crowd on Comedy Central. They have black, white, jewish, gay, latino & other groups represented by comedians. The show deals with everyday issues and basically discusses them as well as making jokes about them. Watch the show for a few days and I guarantee you there will be jokes aimed at most all the ethnicities & religions of the guests or from the topics. They poke fun at everybody no matter what. That's humor being color/religion blind.
