Problem: The new F**king chat - Remedy: Yours truely

ok, alot of us are logging in to find the horror of the new chat box. its hell iddnt it? well after a hour of screwing around with it, tweaking with it, experiementing with it, ive found how to make it as it used to be, with a few little added extras.

ok, so frist thing is first, we gotta make that chat box "normal" and not "boarderless". to do this, right click witheven the chat box to get a submenu popup. click under "Visual" and then "Mode". choose "normal" and the chat display will look like an info window. notice you can move it around and change it's size.

now, step two: bring up the right click menu again. this time, click the option "chat configuration". heres where we'll be spending some time. this window allows you to tweak and create chat windows. example: i can create a window JUST for battle spam, and another JUST for /tells. but first, lets get out old chat back. click the "new window" button. name it "General Chat". make sure "General Chat" is selected to the list on the left next to "Default Chat Window" and take a look at the 3 pull down menus listed towards the right. theyre listed as "Public Chat" "private chat" and "battle messages". now, when a chat channel is activated, such as vincinity chat from the public chat menu is turned on, it will be highlighted white. if it is muted, its grey. got it? so now heres what you do: turn on all the chat that you would see in your old chat box from before the patch. once that is done, click "General Chat" from the list on the left untill it's window appears on screen. now to block all unwanted spam and resize it.

right click the new chat box that we just made. look at "display unsubscribed channels". make sure it is unchecked. now you wont get any spam from unwanted channels like "other hit other". now take the window and possition it in the middle as much as posable, using the "Defualt Chat Box" as a guide. now right click and go to chat configuration again. click Defualt Chat Box until it disappears. now adjust the height of our new General Chat box so it is reasonable to your liking. once your set, right click, go to Visual, and make it once again a Boarderless. now, go back to Visual, and make sure "autohide input bar" is check. presto! youve recreated your old chat box. you can go back to "normal" veiw and adjust its height and width to your liking when ever you want.

now... we can still make use of the new window function..

open up chat configuration from the right click menu. click new window and name it "Org Chat". all you have to do is make sure the only turned on channel is your org chat. make the window appear and youve got a spam free org chat only window. you can now remove org chat from your general chat box if youd like. you can do this with all channels and tweak your gui chat to your liking.

i hope this helped yall. the new chat may be a bitch..but we will overcome!

I, for one, am having a helluva time figuring it out. Of course I'm not going to be like most of the trolls on the AO forums and go off the deep end. I love the idea of having a separate chat for battle spam, Org chat, etc... but so far it seems no matter which channels I turn on in a new chat window, everything just defaults back to the Default Chat Window and shows up there. I'm sure with some time I'll figure it out.

P.S. I'm also one that defaulted back to the old GUI when the new one first came out, so thats prolly part of problem...just relearning the new GUI.

you can also drag n drop one chat window-tab into anotzher chat window, when using the right mouse button.
Use shirt names for your chat windows, that way you can get up to 5-7 tabs in the normal sized bottom window (on a 1023x768 screen).

But so far i havent found out how to make a multitab window borderless, prolly it aint working cuz the tabs belong to the border?

the thing with the black background is great!

just typing is difficult, it sems to me like it likes to jump first to the last used tab....
