Clock must be smoking something. I was seriously dissatisfied with voodoo, and I would rank the Alienware I used to have at the top.

Alienware is top! Hands down, no doubt and shoot anyone who says otherwise... Why?... Have you seen it? If those machines were women they'd be the sexiest mother f#@£!'s on the planet!
But appart from the down right sexy look, when was the last time you heard someone say "God I hate my Alienware comp... Geesh what a pile of crap!".

I can't say it's the best in the world, cus let's face it... I don't have one, but boy oh boy do I want to!!!

My comp has a flashing light that reacts to loud noises. How does that transfer to being a girl? *shudder*

Alienware right here. :)

Case is a fucking behemoth, but they are a great computer, except for the problem at the start (They shipped me it, horribly damaged, barely packaged and missing so many things, I sent it back, got some free upgrades and upgraded it anyway).

Even if its costly, I love it, and I'm going to buy from them for now on, if I'd get a laptop, or when my computers too old to upgrade and I need to buy one anew.

Pentium 4 3.0 GHZ 800 MHZ, ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 256 MB, 2 gigs of Ram, 120 harddrive (Updating soon).

And computers are not chicks. Frankly thats quite scary to consider. :D

Both make noises, both cost a lot to upkeep and make them happy, and both...oh I could make some nice jokes... ;)

In the order of POS to uber..

Gateway, HP, Dell, Alienware, Self-built (assuming you or a friend know how to build one).

I had a Gateway, and although it was super-easy for a computer neophyte, like my mom, it absolutely sucks for gamers. HP is kinda ok, but isnt designed for gamers, for the most part. Dell is a bit better, but they are not upgradable at all.. my mobo was *supposed* to have a 533/400 bus.. but only had 400. Alienware is awesome, as they are totally designed for gamers, but they are definitely not cheap.

I personally run a self-built computer, and when i compare the specs directly with an Alienware, I come out almost identical, but about $600 cheaper.. my stats are..
3.06GHz P4
1Gb PC2700 DDR RAM
80 Gb Western Digital Caviar HD
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Creative Audigy Gamer Sound
Asus P4P800 motherboard
420W Power Supply
3x 80mm Case fans
Antec Full-tower server case
Samsung DVD/CD-RW (52x)
And enough ports to do *anything* I want to do.

All of that cost me approx. $1500. An Alienware with similar specs.. $2150.

Only drawback to a self-built computer is that you have very little, if any tech support. (other than your geek friends and what you know), and it can be a royal pain getting everything put in and put together correctly. I kinda cheated, and took it to a local computer store and had them put it together, after I got all the parts together.

Hope that helps...

Ia gree with Sergei. The very very best and cheapest comps you will get will be self built.

Everyone makes that bitchy rant, that "its cheaper to make a computer than to buy one" well the case is, that would be so for nearly everything. Cars, clothing, Televisions, Movies, Music, ect.

Sergeiovich, if one of those things fails, you have to search down the warranty for an individual piece, and even then,m they might get huffy when it involves other companies parts.

I disagree Tacz. It does not guarntee it will be the best. What if you are a shitty mechanic/technican? What if you screw up somewhere?

It is the cheapest computers, not always the best. If you have someone who really knows it, then its sometimes better to do that. I looked at that, and then looked at the alienware, and the alienwares bonuses outweight the cons of it...

I dont really get how it went from praise/support to disinterest and even opinions against alienware, as soon as I mentioned I had one. I do not mean to be an elitist asshole, but this happened IRL Too.

A buddy says "You bought an alienware, hahaha, idiot, its a waste of money...CAN I HAVE IT IF YOU GET A NEW ONE???"

I am doubting its envy...but sometimes I swear people think they are awsome and cool and powerful, and as soon as someone mentions they have one, the jealousy switch comes up, and a feeling of "*Scoffs* waste of cash" or feelings that they are a poor choice come.

Take it as you will, but I love alienware, and face it boys, quality does not come cheap. I am damn sure making a computer doesnt warrant it will be better. In fact, it can often bring the risk of failure or problems even higher than if you buy it from a company...and I am going to already know someones going to come in here saying "They can screw up just like you could, they are human too, ect."

Well the human is what would do the hand paint job. Computers do the most of it, and they have more training and experience than most if not all of us do. All I'm saying is dont think a custom made job is better automatically than a Brand-Computer.

You can make it cheaper, the same parts, and know the system more intimatly than something put together in a factory, but its not going to recgonize that it was made by one person, by ten people, if it was made by Otori or by Alienware. Its not going to be better due to the person making it. It will be better if you know to use the right parts, the right setups, and so on.

Words from the wise.. I had alot of help from my geek friends in putting it together.. without their help, it would have been an utter and expensive failure. Building a computer is not for the faint of heart. It *is* the cheapest route, but it is also the riskiest route. Just like anything in finance, the more risk you take, the better the possible returns.. or the worse the possible losses.

I was just saying that if you have some "geek" friends who a) have built computers before, or b) build computers for a living, building your own would be a viable option. If you cant fulfill either option.. buy alienware.

When I was building my computer, my technically inept slave driv- err, friend... was just watching me build it while drinking a slushie.

When you build your own computer, it makes using it all the more satisfactory.
