Irish Guy's Metamorph.. Metamo... Transition!

Postby The Irish Guy » Wed Jan 07, 2004 3:41 pm

The Irish Guy (from Indiana) is no more.

He is now known as DJ Lomad.

Edit: After getting Fruityloops and making the three most recent songs, I'm starting to realize how much I dislike Cool Edit, and how much The Chin sucks.. I'll make another Campbell mix soon.

Jesus wept, DF! Could you kick the man any harder? If you don't like the tracks, it's not cool to say "they all suck". Try "I don't like them."

None of us is the Divine Arbiter of Musical Goodness, so none of us is in a position to make that kind of statement.

Sheesh and I thought *I* was the cruelest person I knew.

Okay, I've taken some time and had my listen.

It sounds to me like you're in an experimental phase, getting used to your software and having a lot of fun with it. You sound very uncomfortable and tenative with the microphone. Either that or you just need to up your mic volumes a bit. The works sound extremely spontaneous and unplanned, very off-the-cuff. This is fun to listen to a time or two, but for me won't stand up to repeat listening.

I think once you master your software and equipment, and spend some time and feeling on planning your musical arrangements, you could really come up with something impressive. If you can't overcome your problems with the microphone, perhaps you should consider collaborating with someone who is strong on vocals.

Well that was my impression, for what it's worth.

Just don't let criticism get you down and put you off.

Very interesting.

It's intriguing too, because while you may be new at the software and producing songs(yes?), you've got an entire field of reality just waiting for you.

Experimental phase, yes Boo has it. And I suggest playing your feet in all the waters of style you can, here. 'Cause wow... I guess I'm a dork, but that's just really cool - experimentation.

Okay, so.. I've heard some of what you presented us with... I don't have any really useful suggestions, 'cause as you've probably noticed, dance/techno/beat, whatever, isn't my real genre of music. But! Hark, I do understand some things.

Landscapes. Music can be like a landscape, with instruments or vocals dotting it. It's just how I "see" music. Surreal, real, whatever. Call it an inspirational explanation.. So with that in mind:
Repetition is your friend, if you don't overuse it. Pretty general I know, but "kitty" would be an example of this.
Volumes. This concept alone, also geeks me out. Fading in tracks, fading out vocals, pulling in more things to dot that landscape.

I dig your rambling though, actually... I think it's kind of neat. You sound more mm, rambly, than nervous to me.. it's got some kind of subdued calmness to it.

I'm probably repeating things you already know, but what this is about is learning your tools, experimenting with them, and finding a "path"; one of many of the musical plane that's spread wide open before you. Maybe you'll find your niche too, breakbeat, dance, house.. what have you.

And so, I'll leave specific suggestions to the people who KNOW what they're talking about. ;)

Hes exactly where I am =D if not farther...

I like them, mostly because its the same program I use and like alot of tracks made there.

And DF, you seem to like insulting people. Or at least being pretty rude.

Part of me thinks that DF was being sarcastic. Not sure though. Either way, I hardly paid any attention to his post except to scroll past it...

The vocal weakness is intentional. It was meant to give the rambling feel that Lauri got.

None of the songs were really meant for repeat listening. My main goal was humor...

"So.. here's a robot."
"...so I'll feel like I'm flying like an F-16 when I'm driving around... VROOOOooooo - Druuuuh..."

Etc.

Edit: Check regularly for updates. Prolly going to be uploading like four songs a night since I find them insanely fun to make.

Edit2: And I forgot that Kitty was even on that page. Heh.. I managed to record Taya calling for her cat, and made Kitty.mp3 in like 10 minutes so I could harass her.

(Let's hope for his sake that it's sarcasm.

That I can do. Work on it later tonight.

Edit: Got started later than I planned and only had time to finish up what I've been calling the pilot episode of "Of Gimps and Twinks", an idea I've been toying with for a few months now. It's now available for download. As always tell me what you think. And feel free to say "You suck." Just be sure to tell me -Why- you think so.

I'll work on The Chin 2.0 after work tomorrow.

Levelling Is For Losers rules.

I have only one complaint.

I can barely hear what you're saying. You REALLY need to up the sound levels from your microphone.

I can hear the voices fine when I listen to it.. Might just be me, though. I'll go through and make like a high contrast version - turn the background noises down and the voices up.

Episode 1.0 is in the works.

Technical Difficulties;

Apparently one of my RAM sticks went bad overnight. So I spent pretty much the entire day figuring out and fixing that... Have to replace about half my memory now. Own.

So probably no new updates for a couple of days. Which sucks, because I was working on The Chin 2.0 when my computer randomly rebooted itself and showed me this:

tiiiime for an upgrade man. looks like ur using ME or Windows 98. yucky poo. heres a good setup for ya that i have customized: go get yourself a eMachines T2615. i know i know, eMachines suc, but trust me, this thing is great. she comes with an AMD processor at 2.6, a 512mb ddr ram chip (add a second chip of 512mb ddr Kingston if ya want), dvd and cd rw drive (good speeds), a built in 32mb ddr prosavage graphics card (remove that, replace it with an NVida GeForce 4 5200 128mb DDR AGP version), a pretty good built in sound card with front ports and back ports with mic support software, 6 usb ports, mouse (replace it with a logitech mx500 usb optical), keyboard (its actuly very good, but sometimes it feels cheap. replace if you must), speakers, and a 120gb 1700 rpm hard drive. sry, no monitor, but hey, u got that already. the tower is sleek and small, and she dont make much of a sound when running (nice and quite). so how much does she cost? only $500 (minus the changes i inputted, which would bring it to about $800). sweet deal eh? oh, and duh, my bad, Windows XP Home Edition. some software goodies too, but mostly (and thank god) its almost the striaght OS, no stupid pain in the ass software to deal with. go get it! now!

heheh. it really is a great deal. and if you get the right graphics card, AO plays like a charm (i get 65 to 70 frames with graphics on as high as they can go with full view distances and all effects turned on.)

How could you possibly tell what operating system I'm using by my BIOS?

As it is, I'm using XP Pro, but that really doesn't have anything to do with my RAM getting fried..
