Officially Going Buhbyes

Postby Darth Bootay » Mon Dec 01, 2003 8:43 pm

Well, I never thought it would happen, but it has. I found a game I actually like better than AO. And I'm cancelling my account.

It's been a wild 2 1/2 years. I already miss you all like crazy, but the truth of it is that Anarchy Online has caused me more annoyance than enjoyment for the last half a year. When the only reason I log in to play is to hang out with a group of people, it's time to exchange YM handles and stop paying the monthly fee. At least on YM, I won't get griefed while I'm trying to talk to my friends.

I've moved to FFXI on the bismark server and will most likely remain there for a good long while.

Thank you all for making all of the happy memories I have of RubiKa. You rock.

*big furry mithran hugs*

i stoped buying final fantasy after they stoped putting effort into it...

final fantasy 7 was the one game they should make a sequel to... because it was a rush job... i loves the story soo much... i could talk on and on about it.

but, good luck saint booty... i hope they give you the freedom of expression in FF11 that they do on rubi ka, and, how big is teh world of FF11? bigger than rubi ka? what do you like most about the game that makes joo like it bettah?

I won't be trying out FFXI for quite a long time (unless I get it for xmas) due to budget constraints, but I certainly wish you luck out there, StButee. Sorry to see you leave RK.

Hmm, this blows... now's who's gonna join me on my crusade against all the LOTR lovers? Huh? Tell me that!

Hehe, nah, sorry to see ya leave Boo, was fun actually having someone agree with me on that part... Be sure to pop by the forums, I might need a hand one day, when my "Death to the barinless LOTR fans" ramparts are overrun! *snicker*

I considered FFXI but came to the conclusion that I'm not really up for MMORPG's all that much anymore... Haven't played AO for over a month now... cancelled my account the other day... This is the third time, so I doubt it'll be opened again, the only thing that ever kept me here was GSP... And as I'm euro trash, I can't really stay up for your shows as much as I'd like...

So alas, I guess this has turned into a double farewell... Hehe, but it's the way of things I guess...

Good luck to you Boo, and safe travels!

It's a good thing these forums are open to Ex-players as well as current players. ;) Otherwise I'd be long gone. Drop us a line Booty, at least once in a while. ^_^

Well, look at it this way... GSP and a small handfull of folks outside GSP was what held me for the last year... and GSP does have this very niftay website and set of forums... and I don't HAVE to be in RubiKa to listen to the broadcasts... So in essence, you've only lost my dancing avatar and immediately relayed dorky commentary.

If Serge can post here from another dimension, so can I. Well as long as people want me to that is...

DF, the major draw to FFXI for me was discovering that it's almost grief-proof. The thing that finally made me leave AO was the realization that if I wanted to progress past level 100 again that I'd have to do everything I despise in all MMORPGs... camping, griefing, KSing and generally dealing with behavior I find repellant and reprehensible. Stuff that makes my hands shake and my face go red with the whole big throbby vein in the neck thing. I did a LOT of thinking. AO is so pretty and I have so many people I'm attatched to on RK. Obviously, it's a superior game or I'd not have spent so many hours inside. I certainly wouldn't have played for over two solid years, nearly daily if it WASN'T such a great thing. It's just that there are more of the asshats than there are of you, the good people whom I just adore.

The world in my new game is smaller, less vibrant, more limited in a lot of ways. The interface... well it's not my favorite interface to be sure. Takes a lot of getting used to. I miss /disco. I miss jumping. A lot. Avatar personalization is.. somewhat... limited. BUT it has two of the most important things I require in an MMORPG: an excellant and USEFUL crafting system AND is programmed in such a way that griefing is not just unprofitable, but nearly impossible.

Those who are in FFXI or who plan to go there on the bismarck server, I run Azhriaz (Windhurst crafting mithra monk) and Azhrarn (San D'Orian lumberjack and sheepkiller, 'Riaz's materials hookup) and I'd be delighted to hang with you, help you out on stuff and just generally continue my tradition of being the helpful crafting fiend friend.

Those of you who remain on Ka or whatever other world you've settled in... well don't be strangers. You don't have to switch games to keep talking to tha Bootay. Remember, AO is still an awesome game. It's just not MY game. Not everyone has the limited bulshit buffer I have. Not everyone plays for the same reasons.

And who knows... in time my memory of the things that made me walk away from AO might fade. I can't say I'm never coming back. After all, my memory for the good things in life is much longer than my memory for the things I hate. So by the time my BF's pack of gamers gets bored and wanders off to some other game that doesn't get my attention and I write my post-existentialist philosophy, I may actually get sucked back.

Coz AO is a lot like Baltimore. Once you've lived in Baltimore, you can never leave and not return, even if it is for brief visits.

Aweeeeeeeeeee!

Tarryk, you made me blush. I was only presenting my reasons, allowing for the fact that mileage really DOES vary. And I needed to emphasize the fact that even though I've left, I still feel that AO is among the very best MMORPGs ever published. I'd hate for anyone to think I'd bash a game that has without a doubt has given me more fun than all of the other games I've played prior put together.

As if I needed encouragement to shoot my big, fat mouth off?

LOL!
