Seriously, this is hysterical, but it'll make you feel old, very very old.

Kids review games we grew up with.
Sad and amusing at the same time.

I read that too, recently.

I feel decrepit, and have an urge to slash some Tonka tires. :P

Kirk: I'm sure everyone who made this game is dead by now.

At first, when I read that last line, I laughed. Then my laughter puttered off in silence, and I simply felt old.

*heads off to slash the Tonka tires with Lauri*
Do they even make Tonka trucks anymore?

And the irony: Kirk is my last name.

I like pong. And wolfenstein 3d. Good for a few hours of mindless gameplay.

Oh yeah, of course, I only know this 'cause my daughter screams "I want that!!" at every toy advertisement she sees, and if I don't pay attention, I'm sent to the doghouse of mommyhood.

Well of course EGM sensationalized the issue of old video games compred with the perceptions of punk little kids to sell magazines(or at least advertising). Doesn't bother me any, and if these are their true opinions then we can see how inferior their reasoning is(ok so they are just little kids). Shown a video game such as Pong (the first video game) and told people actually went to arcades(well or other places cause arcades didn't quite exist then) and paid to play this the kids could only resort to pulling out chess and their fathers to diss the idea. And shown Donkey Kong, which has fueled the Nintendo company into a juggernaut in the field, they can only cite the differences in it with other things it helped inspire that came out 10 plus years later.

I don't feel old - just experienced!

Haha! Dude! Justifying it wont help! The games ARE primitive... They DO suck... And the article is right... It IS just nostalgia that makes them seem so good...
When roller blades were first invented, they had wheels of metal... Sure, they were the BOMB back then... Now, they SUCK, plain and simple...
Pong is as mentally challenging as pickin your nose... But it was all they had back then, so it seemed cool, and amazing... Such a technological wonder... Now a days, it's considered below primitive...
The kids are what kids are... Brutally honest when it comes to the obvious. Sure they're methods may be childish and imature... But they are just that, Children!

The games served their purpose! Evolution!
Without them, I'd not be able to play AvP... Or AO... So they were there for a reason...
When they all play virtual reality shooters, our games will seem primitive and lame! Simple! But we will forever look back at them and gaze in part wonder, part awe...

I could keep going, but I think I made my point!

I'm just saying you've gotta have a sense of history and realize that your McGriddle is only in your hand because one time 1200 years ago somebody ground some pepper, cooked an egg, and combined the two!

I'm by no means saying Pong is at all very fun to play by today's standards. But I guarantee if you could drop these kids through a wormhole to say 1970, by the time Pong arrived they'd be selling their parent's cars to play it as much as possible! (OK, well they'd probably kill themselves before Pong ever was invented if that were the case)

I guess since I actually lived through the evolution of video games I'm a bit fond of those I grew up with along the way. Let's raise a grand museum devoted to all video games (yes even the first Pac Man game on Atari 2600)

Pong is primitive yes, but FUN. Keep me away from a game of pong, cuz it can and will suck me in.

Postby Darth Bootay » Thu Nov 13, 2003 6:11 am

What it made me feel was GRUMPY! OMGz! If those were MY kids, I'd thrash them till they couldn't sit down, cut off their puter and phone priveledges for 2 weeks and wash their fucking mouths out with soap.

Jesus wept! Twelve-year-olds shouldn't be that smartassed. OMGz OMGz OMGz! Don't these people discipline their crotchfruit anymore???

And people wonder why I hate the average kid...
