Everquest seemed to be the "America" of MMORPGS...
It was big, diverse, yet ignorant, annoying at times, having gaping flaws that were never fixed, one problem being fixed and antoerh starting.
And so on, basically, for each good step, there were quite a few steps backwards.
DAOC was a light weight, yet a great game...(A sweden, or Switzerland).
Ultima Online was a once great, but now run down game (I guess Italy)
Anarchy Online...is like Atlantis.
Has a few flaws (Um...underwater), but its great overall. ^_^
Its easy to get into, yet harder as you plunge in, and deep.
Multiple diverse gamers, roleplayers to power-levelers to PVPers...
The PVP is so-so, but it can be a lot of fun. *Hopefully if AO had a sequel when it becomes too dated...when MMORPGs have the abilities of Half-life 2, lets say*
Besides that, it seems to be one thing that makes AO bootylicious.
IMMERSION
So far, no game (Exccept for possibly SWG) has this real-world feel that AO does.
The Clubs in SWG seem to be forced...there not a choice, like Gridstream and the clubs in Rubi'Kai are.
You are as I hear forced to go, to reliveve "Battle fatigue".
In anarchy, go into Rhompa, or Reets, and their might be some people just talking, chatting, or dancing.
Gridstreams parties were a fan-made invention (Thank ye GSP! You guys rawk!), and really give depth to it.
I mean Everquest can't really have parties like AO, nor DAOC, as others do not as well.
Anarchy feels more like a realistic land, if people all roleplayed...dear god, I would get lost in it, as would most others.
Ships seem to hover above cities, take off, and load cargo. People walk around, talk, or order food, and birds flock around.
Exception in graphics, the wilderness is beautiful, feelings like I'm an insgnifigant spek of life on a planet, looking up into a dark abyss, lit with millions of bright flickers of a couragous flame.
For a small Norwegian company and an older game engine, its simply amazing. Imagine the potential if AO was recreated later?
The only game that I see to be more immersive is perhaps world of Warcraft (This is biased, I am orgasmic for Blizzard games), but that would be in the world, not the society, that is in AO.
I'd be on-world if the bloody brother wasn't hogging it up. Nope...I have to be in NWN for the time being...with hobbits...who want to, get into...my pants.
Oh well, I'll be roleplaying in AO:SL Soon enough. ^_^
