Spineshank plays AO??

Postby Tarryk » Tue Jul 15, 2003 6:12 am

Go to http://launch.yahoo.com

In the search bar, search for "Spineshank"

Click on videos.

Watch the video for Smothered.

Listen closely to the sound effects at the very beginning of the video.

Not convinced? Pay close attention to the sound at the very end of the video.

Very hard sell on those reasons Tarryk, although the video is very AOish (think of the cameras being Omni-Tek)

You obviously didn't pay attention to the sound at the end of the video. Watch it again, my friend. :)

The video itself is not AOish, even a smidgen.

Re-Edit: If you didn't get it, that sound at the end of the video is the exact same sound...now I mean exact as in it IS the sound...of the "face changing" sound in Anarchy Online before they made the new character creation system.

Edit Again: That sound, to my knowledge, was designed originally by the sound team at AO. The sound editors at Funcom are very diverse, and they don't have a habit of ripping things off. All AO sounds are unique to AO.

Tarryk...keep in mind, it could be sounds that are universal.

You hear a certain screamin everything...

And I heard, I shit you not, Starcraft music, the exact starcraft music...

In a Nature Video about wolves and winter wildlife.

Um...Tarryk.

Okay, unbelievers. Couple points, then proof.

A) AO Sounds are unique. They are designed by the AO crew.

B) It is not a mistake. You will realize this if you listen to the sound at the very end of the video, right when the music stops.

Compare it to the AO sounds, which you can find easily:

Program Files\Funcom\Anarchy Online\cd_image\sound\sfx\gui\020.wav
Program Files\Funcom\Anarchy Online\cd_image\sound\sfx\gui\021.wav
Program Files\Funcom\Anarchy Online\cd_image\sound\sfx\gui\022.wav
Program Files\Funcom\Anarchy Online\cd_image\sound\sfx\gui\023.wav
Program Files\Funcom\Anarchy Online\cd_image\sound\sfx\gui\024.wav
Program Files\Funcom\Anarchy Online\cd_image\sound\sfx\gui\025.wav
Program Files\Funcom\Anarchy Online\cd_image\sound\sfx\gui\026.wav

There is no mistake.

Can't say that it sounds the same to me, either. :)

My god.

I mean, wow, guys.

It's not even a redux of the sound or a recreation of the sound or something that sounds "vaguely like" the AO sound. It's the exact. Same. Sound.

I'm really blown away that everyone else here seems to think otherwise. It's like holding up two very large and obviously bright red signs and everyone pointing to one of them and say "well that one's more of a greenish color". I'm actually honestly irritated, here, so I'm giving up.

Therefore, you're right. It's not the AO head-change sound from the early character generation system. Just vaguely sounds the same.

Well, I'm pretty sure nobody's disagreeing to irritate anyone...just being honest. *shrug* It could be that my sound detection skills aren't on the proper plane of existence after just waking up. :P

Lol, what is this? :)

People nabbing about stuff. So what if Spineshank found the sounds in AO so friggin cool he just had to use em? Maybe he's payed FunCom a small royalty fee for using? What the heck do I really know? :D

Lot's of questions and no real answers. If Tarryk has taken the time to compare the sounds I am sure they sound just alike.

But what I do not know is who is the original creator of that particular sound.

I have to agree with Tarryk. At least the sound effect at the end of the video sounds like the "physical alteration" sound from the old avatar creation process.
Call me a sycophant if you will, but Tarryk is right.

Okay, I listened again...and then a third time...

And, I'm going to change my call. What I don't recall hearing at ALL the first time, was glaringly there the second time I listened...and, again the third time. I honestly don't know how I could NOT have heard it the first time...cause it does jump out at ya right at the end (and, I was listening to that particular point of the song as instructed).

Anyway, wouldn't surprise me really. They look like dudes that would like AO. *shrug*

Kick ass song, btw...must get that....

Iiee! ^_^ I'm not saying it's different! ^_^ I'm not saying it's the same.
I never had AO as a game, I just played it on other peoples accounts (with their concent yes ;)). ^_^ So I can't check it for myself.

You could be right. These could be two red signs.
You could be color blind too. :P

Tarryk, I still haven't heard it, is it the sound done when it changes to a the weird video thing?
