Well, I'm (thread name)! I just bought the parts for a new computer with an Antec case. Image

My mo-bo can support up to a 4Ghz prcessor, and 4 slots for ram which I've put two 256's in. Ontop of that, I filled the AGP (x4) slot with my NEW RADEON 9800! *drools* Then I put in my Soundblaster 5.1 soundcard, and attached my old 19" monitor, old keyboard & mouse, and new Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers! I'll have pictures soon. I assembled it myself, with some help from my brother to get the RAM in (it was stubborn, but it worked in the end).

If you have custom machine post your specs!

512mb RAM
63 Gb hard drive(s)
ATI Radeon 9800 (128 mb)
2.66 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 processor
True Blue power supply
5.1 sound system
Sound-proof see-through kick-ass case
pictures soon!

nice case!
it looks big, i ve a normal big tower, but its far too small for me, for changing my hard drives (120 + 30 ) i need to take out my RAM ( 512 in 3 banks) and before i can get out my RAM i need to take out my graphikscard (gf3).
the cd-in port on my old soundblaster value is broken, my 44x cd-drive seems to take a rest from time to time, the system crashs when i use winamp, mediaplayer.
ao works only for minutes before it disconnects.
and the whole systems takes a reboot, if it feels like it.
the only parts that seem to work are the 2 network cards and the 12x burner. in the summer i need to open the case to keep the cpu (1gig t-bird)below the 60° mark. and it louder than a jet turbine. the resets seem at least not be a hardware prob, cuz under linux it works pretty fine, but i cant reinstall it cuz i ve no working screen for it.

HELL I M HAPPY I VE MY LAPTOP.
(1gig p3, 512 RAM, gf2go, 20gig HD ) only prob with my notebook is i can play ut2k3 only at 800x600 with full details. not in 1024x768 :(

I was too lazy to actually build it this time and wanted a warranty, but I bought it from a custom PC place (ibuypower.com) back in Feb. Here it is:

ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2700+ Processor
1 GB PC3200 RAM
2 80GB Hard Drives
SB Audigy 5.1
GF4 Ti4400 8x
Plextor CDRW 48/24/48
Sony 12x DVD
Sony 19 inch Trinitron monitor
Logitech Z640 speakers

Ok, you asked for it!! I'm usually quite humble when it comes to these type things, but I must show my uberness here. No specs necessary, the picture will alone, tell the story:

When my FREAKING ALIENWARE COMES! It will be...

Pentium 4, 3.0 Ghz 800 mhz.

Raedon 9800 256 mb.

2 gigs of Ram, Corsair I believe.

120 gigs of Hard Drive.

19 inch.

Alienware Case.

Tacz, since the Alienware is about 2,700 - 3,000...would a custom rig, with teh worry of warranties and problems popping up, be better for the next time?

Yup, right now (young, not techno saavy but lil' experienced in it) I just want to take whats there, powerful, and good looking.

Next time I have to buy a PC, it'll be a custom rig.

But Tacz, how are warranties, problems, and so on, handled?

Theres this store in my neighberhood where EVERYTHING they sell has a 30 day warranty if it breaks. It sells computer parts, so their policy includes that even if you try to assemble it and it breaks, they just give you back a limited amount, like 70% or so.

He's missing the 1400 baud modem to play it on with.. it goes into a slot on the left front of the keyboard (i know from too many nights staying up late playing tradewars on a local bbs)

1400 baud!!! You had the 1400 baud!! *cries* I was stuck with the 300 baud forever when my mom got the phone bill from QuantumLink! Thats when I started my OWN BBS (and yes I had LoRD).

Load "AO",8,1 ROFLMAO!!! That old 1541 weighed more than the whole towers do nowadays. :P

Yup, that's where my start was, too. C64, 300 baud connection to QLink. Might as well have engaged in chat lines via fax.

LOAD "*",8,1
LOADING...
PLEASE INSERT DISK 2
PRESS "RETURN" WHEN READY
LOADING...
(hours pass)
PLEASE INSERT DISK 299
PRESS "RETURN" WHEN READY
LOADING...

Finally got an IBM PC 8088 with a 5 meg HD. Man that baby screamed.

Ran a TAG BBS for a couple years.

And yes, I too had LoRD. :)

Oh the memories! I think I learned to type on that C64 before I could actually read. The Sims will never compare to that Little Computer People thing.

C64, 300 baud connection to QLink

I didn't even know we HAD a modem on that thing! 'Course I was like what, 4? But still.

That game owned my life for years. I mean LCP, not that Sims crap. Hell, I sometimes answer the phone in gibberish, just to do it.

Oh, that was fun! I still play it a seldom time once in a while :p
Do a search on google you'll find java and telnet versions of it. Typical me I always forget where I registered and played last, so I have to start over every time I wanna play ;)
