Hail Comrades

Hail comrades. Lazyimperial here, and my I just say that I love you guys. Gridstream ROCKS!!! It has also made me want to goof off with AO again after I don't know how long. However, I am afraid I only played 2 weeks last time so I need some advice.

I generally do things by myself, not out of hating groups but out of not having the patience to wait for it to form up only to have it collapse 30 minutes in b/c someone has to walk their dog. :p I like ranged combat, and odds are i'll play a solitus since I prefer to be balanced in stats.

Now, what the heck should I play? lol. A combat oriented adventurer, a soldier? I'm about as confused as a lazyimperial can get, since I don't want to spend my time making a character that doesn't suit me and ends up gimped. Help me and I'll give you a cookie. :P

I'd have to say that if you like solitus and ranged weapons, soldier's probably the way for you to go. Personally I don't care for that class because it's mostly nothing but all out straight forward hellacious asswhomping with a few hp buffs and whatnot thrown in.

I guess my main(even though I seem to rarely play him these days?) is a fixer because it's a mini soldier who requires a bit extra to use. See, a soldier can just walk up and blast the shit out of things Metal Slug style. A fixer has to shoot, root, run like hell when its resisted, etc. But then hey, I'm weird like that.

As far as adventurers go, I'm told that pistol-using adventurers wind up being weaker than melee ones in the high end game...I've not done too much with that, but a good friend of mine started out with pistols, then switched to two blades and told me it was insanely better...

If I was to play a soldier, what weapon would be best to specialize in?

I've heard that shotguns aren't as effective as other weapons. Ugh iv'e forgotten so much that I sicken myself.

Basically you'd go with an assault rifle with the most specials you can find. Far as I can tell, half of the big thing about a soldier is the ability to just about fill an entire chat screen with nothing but your own special attacks.

soldier

hey, nice to meet ya! i am a level 81 soldier right now, slowly working up to 100 LOL. many friends have helped me along the way, and what i've found to be the best weapon is a div9. you can find them in team missions, or beg a fellow soldier friend. i have found them to have the most damage, but a slow recharge. soldiers are fun, but have hardly any heals. i am finding myself lately getting stuck in missions where there are 2 guys to each room ,sometimes yellow dudes, and getting close to dying or being wiped out completely. team missions are probably the best way to go with a soldier so you have good healers with you, like a doctor or martial artist. good luck, and happy killing!

okay, now I know this is going to sound pathetic but here i go....

I finally downloaded the game and started a account. However, I have a slight newbie neutral problem (other then getting harrassed by a bunch of clan and omni members who were on their alts). my solitus soldier (and my solitus adventurer) can't find anything to kill that is not yellow in neutral training grounds and I keep dying. should I have picked another faction or am I just having incredibly bad luck?

You should be able to beat those yellows easy...probably you forgot to raise skills. You get some points before you level, so go ahead and spend them so you can at least get started.
