Obscure Song Hunt...

Postby meik » Thu Jan 30, 2003 8:07 pm

So I am looking for a particular song, but i figured i'd make the topic openended in case others had some they are searching for.

I'm looking for a version of Karma Coma, from the soundtrack of the Movie Lost Angels (which rocks btw). I beleive the majority of the song is in Chinese, cept for when they say in english "but i'm cool". anyway .. you'd have to see the movie to understand how cool.

here's a list of CD's that I would suggest that anyone looking for good music pick up

Wumpscut - Wreath of Barbs

Wumpscut - Bunketor 7

Funker Vogt - eXecution Tracks

VNV nation - Empires

Apoptygma Berzerk - 7

Recombinant - Digital Quarantine (You know that I had to sneak myself in there somewhere)

Assemblage23 - [contempt]

Das Ich - Die Propheten

Apoptygma Berzerk - Harmonizer

Anaphylaxis - So Now Then

Front 242 - Up Evil

Okay there's a list of the most important Electronic CD's out there right now.

I must say that Recombinant has made it pretty clear about his expertise in the wide realm of Electronic music.... and yes I read your other posts and have d/l your music..................buuuuttttttt

Front 242 - 6.21.3.11 Up Evil (is the actual name of the CD). Calling that a worthy 242 album is almost on the same level as calling Mr. Reznor an orignial (which I think you debunked before...props to ya). Patrick was on the downside of things when he recorded that and went very, very commercial.

As for Wumpscut/VNV/Apop/Assemblage, same school, different teachers, and lots of copying each others homework (I'm sure even Tarryk will flame me for that). There's a bunch of bands that attempted to copy the pseudo-industrial/electronic sound and some did it well (Nitzer Ebb for one), but why not Front Line Assembly....at least Bill Leeb had the balls to be prolific in melding industrial and electronics....and even stepped out of bounds with Intermix. Skinny Puppy pioneered the fusion of post Throbbing Gristle/Einterzende Neubeuten/Psychic TV and electronic genres. Oh yea, almost forgot about Foetus.

And if I can go ahead and be a bit of lisetning critic (and a club DJ that spun this stuff mid-90's) Recombinant, I like your stuff, but it's a bit redundant of the exact bands/projects that you mentioned in your list....hmmmm. Like I said, its good, and very professionaly done, but maybe your old school aint quite old enough NIN. :)

Okay Sorry about forgetting the numbers on Front242's album... next. Front242 created the Genre Electronic Body Music. Skinny Puppy takes as much of an inspiration from 242 as any other band. As for FLA? Ugh... I won't get into them because you seem to appreciate them... I don't like them. I'll leave it at that. at least you know your stuff though... very rare an occaision that someone knows what they're talking about in the realm of industrial/EBM.

As for Apop/VNV/FV/ABC/XYZ, the similarity IS there... You can't expect any genre of music to be completely different from one band to the next... to expect that is absolutely ridiculous, because each band Builds on a base that was created by the last...Different Teachers yes, but I think that the point in ANY dancey genre is to stay within the mould without becoming every other band inside of it.. it's this strange dichotomy that an artist is forced to have... If you want people to dance, you gotta utilize the basic principles that make it danceable, but to do that, you use what everyone else is using, and you have to kinda force your own style into it.....

Thanks for the Criticism of MY work though... Noone seems to bother anymore, and it's rather annoying... I'm trying to work out those problems with redundancy.. But I do have a question. Do you mean in each song as a seperate entity or the whole work? because I see the whole work each using the same formula. I'm trying to break away from that, and it's getting frustrating to make the same thing over and over...

as for the "recombinant made it clear that he knows a lot about the electronic genre"... sorry if that bothers you.. ask anyone that knows me, but 90% of the time I talk about music... it's the only thing that matters to me so it drives most of the things that I talk about... in case you didn't notice... I'm not posting on the "this isn't music" posts for the most part. I stick to what I know. anyways, if you want to carry on the industrial/post industrial/my mom discussion, You can catch me in game ( kelra )

oh.. what does "Like I said, its good, and very professionaly done, but maybe your old school aint quite old enough NIN." mean?

That's because you're too smart to understand inane babbling.
In the sheltering shade of the forest
Calling calming silence
Accompanied only by the full moon
The howling of a night wolf
And the path under my bare feet...
...The Elvenpath
