Now THAT is a cool bird. I'd get a picture of my bird, but he's EXTREMELY ugly...he was picked on for YEARS by another bird(the idiot who last had them thought they were "kissing"), so not only is he missing feathers all over, he's also one psycho bird...

I'm still trying to teach him to be l337, but it isn't progressing well...

Franklin is leet he has some damn amazing fish catchin skills. The cat is a pain in the ass, but sometimes he is luvable... but usually I really wanna punt him lol

Hehe my bird was trying to find a position to attack the camera most likely. When he is perched on my grandpa's shoulder like that, he is highly defensive. He attacks anything that can get close.

He is learning some words too. Whats up is one. Also has learned a naughty word or two. Has learned uh oh.

Gonna try to teach him hoot hoot and Bagels in da fridge next.

I've left recordings going for days on end...no results. My bird apparently learns what HE wants to. So far, he just learned to laugh...which is damn creepy.

On the plus side, I DID teach my 3 year old nephew to say "I ownz juu". Man, that confused my sister...

Palla, you have a great bird! He reminds me of my grandmother's bird Huzzy, who attacked anything that so much as looked at her wrong. Now Huzzy lives with my cousin's husband, whom she is madly in love with and won't let my cousin near.

Nurgle, my mother has a turtle just like yours, only smaller. When I saw the picture it was almost as if I were looking at Gamera (that is what she named her turtle).

Yeah, today I went to PA with my sister(3 hour drive), and I sat in the back with that very nephew the entire ride. I got him to say "roxxor" and "ownage". The kid's got potential.

The day he calls my sister a gimp is when I will proclaim him officially l337. Of course, my sister will probably also murder me that day.

I apologize in advance for what is going to be a lengthy post, chock full o' rambling... I own a cockatoo (living with my brother currently in the U.S.), several cockatiels (my sister stole them), and here I have a young African Grey and another cockatiel. So, yeah, I'm a bird nerd.

There is an excellent book out there, called "The Owner's Guide to Parrot Behavior", by Mattie Sue Athan. Ms. Athan is like the horse whisperer for birds. It's an excellent guide if you have a parrot with behavior problems, or you have a new bird, and you're not quite sure what to do...


To Tir: Your bird no longer has a cage-mate, correct? Depending on the type of bird, age, health, and damage done, the feathers can take a long time to grow back (I had a cockatiel whose entire tail had been lovingly removed, it took her 15 months to re-grow those feathers). Sometimes the feathers never grow back, but... with good nutrition, your bird might be able to recover some more of those missing feathers.

For any type of parrot or parrotlet, a pelleted food should be the basis of the diet, with a variety of fruits, nuts, veggies, grains thrown in for variety. Somewhere, I have a list of safe fruits and veggies for birds, if you want to email me a kbarlau@hotmail.com, I'll dig it out, re-type it for you. Birds can eat anything EXCEPT DAIRY, but just like humans, should avoid things with a lot of fat, salt, sugar, overprocessed, etc. (our African Grey likes pasta, salad veggies, grapes, and chocolate chip cookies, but I always dig the chips out first.. and I've never seen a bird that didn't absolutely adore Doritos, just don't give him too many!)

I've found that overall, Roudybush makes the very best pelleted bird food, and I've always fed it to my birds back in the States. Now I'm overseas, and I haven't found anyone who sells it, so I feed my birds here LaFaeber's, which is also an excellent bird food. Zupreem is good, too, although I've had birds nitpick over the different colors, and wound up throwing away a lot of it.

Places like PetSmart usually carry at least one good line of pelleted bird food. If there isn't a store in your area, they are online, and you can order through them. If you're interested in RoudyBush products, they have a U.S. number, 1-800-326-1726

If you do switch foods, be sure and do it gradually. That's really important, as I learned from experience - some birds will get all suspicious and starve themselves before they'll touch new stuff.

Wow, big post. First, he's a cockatiel, and I can't fully figure if he's picking his feathers out or not. Basically, this is how it went down before I got him.

There were two birds, a male and female, in a cage. Rubberneck(the one dubbed as mine now) was then introduced into this cage, where he then proceeded to get his ass kicked on a daily basis by the other male. After QUITE a long time of this, we got the birds. We realized that the birds were most certainly NOT "kissing" as the previous owner reported. My brother in law, who raised birds for a time, confirmed that we should get them apart, which we did. However it's been over two years, and though some of the feathers may have grown back, it's very hard to be sure. Further, the bird seems to be pretty emotionally scarred from the whole thing. He doesn't trust anything, including inanimate objects. Though, he WILL sit on people's shoulders, heads, hands, etc. But he will NOT allow petting of any kind, has a habit of attacking his mirror(viciously, I might add), and can be an overall ass at times.

For the record, he's called Rubberneck because he's missing most of the feathers around his neck. Also, I'm a Jerky Boys fan.
