Postby Ducere » Thu Jan 30, 2003 8:33 pm

hi

I just made a song with AO in mind... I'm no musician or anything like that, I just made it for fun... anyways, if anyone wanna listen it woulf be cool :o)

www.mp3.com/ducere

and it's called Welcome to Rubi-Ka

and if anyone would for some reason wanna play it, burn it, mix it or just throw it away, it's totaly okey...

if you like it, you can always give the link to anyone.

if you wanna tell me something about it (or anything else) I'm mostly on my ICQ (123867810) and my AO name is anastacia

take care averyone!

Whoops...called uh, Welcome to Rubi-ka? Heh, hate to say this, but I think there's already two songs out there called that.

But for the sake of argument everyone, this person didn't even know about Gridstream until someone(gee, wonder who) mentioned they should check out Gridstream, and post here about it. So this WAS original in concept I'm sure...just a funny little coincidence.

okay, first off... I'm going to make a bold statement... You're not industrial. It's electronic.. it's dark, but it's closer to darkwave than anything....And even there, that's a stretch because it's too Anti-christ superstar meets Stromkern (stress on the anti-christ superstar aspect though)

Next off... You're not too bad... Musically I think you need to work on your instrumentation and the way that you apply your instruments In on things. For Example.. on your Track with your voice... You do have a very cool thing going with it on there... I was suprised actually.. BUT! you completely ruined the moment for me by adding in that "musicbox" thing... it's Not evil at all man... it just looms over the track like a badly placed Joke that Noone quite gets... Now.. If you were to Maybe take the levels down on that, detune it, Put it Almost into the Background, And Give another Synth some REAL power behind that, work on a main Synth line that it's so childish.. or if you do, Make it SO immensly detuned that it turns into another beast completely.. Maybe Some Serious Aggression to that... Dissonance would be a good thing..... also... What is the POINT that you are trying to get across? If you can't convey it in words (I don't agree with you on the Vocal Quality, But I feel as though your lyrics are a bit lacking... they're too Over-gothed, and it turns cliche...Again, if you work more on this, you'll be fine) then you have to convey it in Music. Everysong that I've made has a point behind it... And even my most Skimp songs convey emotion.... which is VERY difficult in the electronic genre, because you have so much... so much CRAP to wade through that's already been done, and you have some very very VERY interesting possibilities... Might I suggest a Few bands for you to look into: Wumpscut, Blutengel, Stromkern, Das Ich, Funker Vogt. These are just starting points, But they Inspire me even though I sound nothing like them. And that's REAL industrial. Not NIN/Manson... stuff.... *keeps it civil*

A few other comments... If you're looking to get anywhere with this, I'd stay as far away from the Manson thing as possible (I would note that this is a personal preferance here), as it's just Not kicking in the "industrial" scene... and there's already ten million bands out there trying to do the Gothpunk thing.

next: what program are you using? I can't tell.. but I know it's NOT reason, and that's what matters...GET REASON.

in review: You're not bad, You've got raw talent, Stop living under the Manson Shadow, and Start learning how to Properly instrument your songs.
Don't take these words as unkind. I never got criticism early on in my music making career, and I wish that I had (It would have saved me from some very very stupid mistakes *coughs*), so I try and be brutally honest with everyone in this field

hey,... thanks alot *s* (and I mean it :o))

to answer a few of the your questions, I've just begun to make music, it's about 6 months since i played my first note on my keyboard. So the "point" of the songs right now are just to try... I've made propbably over 50 "things" and I feel I don't wanna work to much on each song right now, it's just practise.

I think that your tips are true... I lack lot's of things, totaly... but I'm accually kinda glad that you liked some of it *s*. I think your right on the childish things, but I don't think I'll remake the songs on mp3.com since I have lot's of new stuff that I'm working on... and I'll focus on making them better :o)

and about the industrial or not thing... man I have problems with that  they keep sending my songs back telling me that it's the wrong genere... I don't know and I don't care.

I can imagine that there are öot's of mansons wannabies out there, but still, I have to be influenced by the music I listen to... I'm not trying to be manson or nin, but I need to have something to go by. I'll totaly check out the bands/Artists you mentioned!

One more thing, the lyrics in normalize me wore written in like 10 minutes, I just wanted to try to sing and I didn't care about the lyrics, again, I'm just trying things out.

...and yeah... it's all made in REASON! *s* why did you think it wasn't?

...and thanks again :D

Don't try to follow other styles, just do your own thing..

I gave up genres and styles a long time ago.
(around when I realized I couldn't keep up with all the genres or know the difference :P

Most of the genre on my songs are prolly wrong,
but I look at the genre name and I see a name.
If that name describe what I feel about the music I label it as such.
We all know the majority of genre names doesn't actually match what the genre is :P

A bad thing to do when starting out is trying to mold yourself into a genre/style. Don't try it...
Later when you got your "own" style down, then you could see about
going for spesific styles...
But always, always do your own style first...

I.e play around until you make stuff that your genuinly happy about,
that you feel "work"...

You have to learn to walk before you can run ya know :P

Me? I'm still crawling around lol...

oh I'm trying to be manson or nin, nono... I'm... how can I put it... well I need to learn how to build my songs up and stuff like that, I'm doing my own thing cuz even if I wanted to I couldn't do others ;o) Just listen to "Welcome to Rubi-Ka"... it's not very mansonish now is it ;o)

and lot's of other "tunes" I've made are totaly different... some sounds like some Titanic theme, and some like Phil collins etc etc... so I just try it all :o)

Thanks

Well that's good that you're Trying to be Diverse.... I myself Range in my styles everywhere from straight trance to noise to Industrial to Classical depending on how the mood strikes me.... I don't like being confined (which is part of the reason why I made Digital Quarantine [my full length now out on Mannequin Oddio])

as for reworking songs.... I would Highly Suggest reworking that song man... Like I said, You have a lot of Good things going on... I'd Gladly help you out and maybe I can do some remixes for you.. I'm all about remixing now that I don't have to work on MY music for a while... Who knows... If you feel like it, I have a Remix album that I"m going to be working on for Digital Quarantine... I'd be happy to send you some of the files if you want to try remixing them.... I"ll get in contact with you on AIM at some point in the near future man... If you're looking for labels to start sending out a demo to and whatever, I know a LOT of places to start, so I can help you with it... also, If you want to talk on AO, my main is Malaryn (yeah! I do Female Ch's only.... its the look >.>v) she's a big ol beast, You can't miss her....ask McDohl =D

What Refills are you using? I can't recognize ANYthing that you used.... did you make your own wav's? if so much more props...

*We all know the majority of genre names doesn't actually match what the genre is *
YES! I'm marketed as trance, even though I see more Futurepop/Synthpop/ Nuskewl EBM in my sound....

Maybe us AO musicians can do a remix album for each other or something... or maybe a collection of AO Inspired songs on a CD.. that would SO rock.. actually, I wrote the title track after a long bout of Powerleveling... so who knows.... Maybe funcom would back us.... which would ROCK HOUSE!!!

Anyways... There's me dreaming again.... I'm gonna go now e.e;

Hey that would be really cool... both trying to remix one of your songs and if you would clean up (or make em real dirty) some of mine :D and the AO cd thing sounds really cool *s*

What refills... I download as many as I can, Think I have about 2gig refills, don't really know what I use since I like to just look around and take whatever feels good at the moment. But I like to tweek them a little and I love filters.

kmy own wavs... how do you mean... mostly i just do a mixdown in Reasnon and sometimes I remix each track and take em up in cool edit, I do my vocals there and my samples (everything audio).

I don't have AIM but I have ICQ (123867810) and MSN (pacmanvs@hotmail.com) and if you don't know it, I'm Anastecia in AO, and yeah... the girls look better

see ya

Well, on top of all the "do your own thing" statements, which I heartily agree with, I should add.

Final option: Be like me, and conform to every disgustingly outdone genre ever introduced to the saturated-with-crap music industry, and for some oddball reason people might still like it.
