Should they make a sequel to AO?

Talk about anything!

*shivers*

That game looks way to cartoony, and sounds to simple for me. But thats just my opinion.

Don't knock cartoony. If there was a cel-shaded option for AO, I'd probably have it on at all times, no matter how much client-side lag it caused me(like I'd notice in the torrents of lag it already has).

Simple, though...is a problem. That's why I don't play Ragnarok Online... Ahh, anime mmorpg...with absolutely nothing terribly new to it. Class changes, ok...done that... 2d sprites on 3d backgrounds? Yeah...seen that. But to be fair, the emotes in that game are great. You can actually sweatdrop!

No, they need that in EVERY game ever made. Every. All of 'em. I'd do it all the time even in games like TFC. Mess up a rocket jump, send yourself into a wall, then sweatdrop...ahh, that'd be classic.

I also want a "v-pose" emote for AO... After every single boss, pose, and shout "LOVE AND PEACE!!!"

*imagines playing one of my more serious games like Silent Hill,*

Striding slowly down a hall inching with the presence of foul demons. A demonic child wielding a knife comes crawling out of the darkness. Agonising groans coming forth out of it's mouth, sightless eye sockets fixated on the light!

and it slips on a coke bottle or floor boards, and falls on it's hiney. Sweatdrop. back to our hero, whom also Sweatdrops.

 you're right! It's definately an experaince in every game.

If they can make an online Resident Evil...why not Silent Hill too?

Then again, I still fail to see how an RE Online can work...hell, the single player games got damned repetetive enough. Not to mention the absolute ASS they considered control.

A RE or SH would all suffer the same issues as AO.
A great game, wonderfull setting.
As standalone/singleplayer they key ass (A AO singlepkayer (maybe a pre-story dating back before our arrival on Rubi-Ka? hehe) would be awsome) but as a MMORPG it's the issue of a story, you need some linearity, sme purpose. humans/people need to be able to look to goals. and be able to go to those goals, preferably with a purpose and a result they crave then they need to have a new goal etc. I guess leveling is a goal but.. some day that ends or you get tired of it..

FC wanted a kickass story (ala TLJ prolly) but ina MMORPG thats a pain to implement fully..

I'm afraid a RE mmorpg (they'r making that?) would suck..:(

Prolly like a CounterStrike like thing or team/coop based vs the zombies then... That might work..

But I need stories that suck me in :)

I could so easily see a single player FPS game of AO... Though, its storyline would probably just be screaming "Red Faction"... But I can easily see it with Deus Ex-ish gameplay...or at least in the sense that you can change how you play. I personally thought the action in Deus Ex was too slow for an FPS.

A nanotech would be damned fun to play in a FPS setting...

Heh, sorry senpai, but I can't agree at all there. I understand they want you to be more apt to run away from fights for the purpose of setting, but doing that through effectively crippling your character is a bit lame. It's creating a challenge by making you a gimp...

Well a AO Single Player game in the style of The Longest Journey would also rawk. FC did some awsome work on that. (Ragnar Tørnquist the guy behind the AO/Rubi-Ka story etc (hes no longer on AO story team tough) did the story stuff for TLJ too)

Acually Id' very much like to see a single player AO in a TLJ style or a combo of TLJ and a FPS. It would allow Ragnar and FC to tell us the backstory (before our arrival to Rubi-Ka) i.e they cold focus on the settlers or the mining incident (that split the miners from Omni-Mine and formed the clans etc)..

A linear story game would allow so much more of the story to be told than a mmorpg could...

<- digs the AO story stuff...

Or a FPS of the war against the Omega would be cool too, even though it's WAY different from anything on Rubi Ka. From how it was described, nanotechnology was quite usable on Earth, even back then. It just had to be charged up in chambers every now and then. Almost sounds like they wrote it with game mechanics in mind...

Though, I seriously believe that when they made the world of Rubi Ka(and the history surrounding it), they had intentions of making it much more than just one mmorpg. Honestly, they have enough background to do it, too.

Heck, the way the Notum Wars plays, it almost feels like a RTS as it is...

Ragnar Tørnquist http://www.ragnartornquist.com/ (make sure to check out his journal, it rocks :)

Created the AO universe/story etc. he wrote Prophet Without Honor. (the AO novel) and was the main guy in the story team until recently.
He's currently doing other projects at FC right now. (rumpours of a tLJ2 etc and other secret stuff hes working on. check his journal for teasers and hints :P (he also the the story guy behind Midgard afaik too. anyway.

He has a bunch of notes and ideas for more story stuff.
To create a mmorpg btw you need lots of info.
You may not ponder why Omni-1 lies where it currently is.
But I'm pretty sure in his notes there is some info as to why.

Ragnar did refer to his "AO Bible" that he has all his AO story stuff/info in.
The current Story team (or rather the AO director and top guys) use that AO Bible as reference when doing stuff in AO...

This is just a wild guess. but I presume that Rangar just as JR Tolkien (the guy that wrote Lord of The Rings books etc) created a "world" first, and a history/present/future of the world.
THEN he wrote the story. As such yeah. There is prolly enough base/source material for a AO2. for a single play game and 3-4 novels more.

It's not just a game, it's a glimse into a world that Ragnar invented.
And I definetly wanna find out more about it :)

*would love to get his grubby little hands on the "AO Bible" hehe*

Fooey I say! Fooey on all the Resident Evils and Silent Hills out there! There is only one game that can truely make you paranoid and afraid well after you've run screaming away from the computer... System Shock 2.

Umm.. not that I'm saying RE and SH aren't good, they are. ^.^ They're just more into using loud noises and effects to make you jump (and get scared for a few seconds until you shoot whatever it was a few times). SS2 made me want to crawl under my bed and build a bunker complete with army rations. lol

I was playing Ragnaork Online for about a week, then they closed the International Beta on me. <sniff> I hear it's due to come back up any time though. :)

resident Evil makes scary noises, yes, but Silent Hill is the master of atmosphere. ^_^ I get scared and almost crap my pants just by walking down a dark hallway. Nothing could happen, but the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm on the fringes.

And when things do come inching out of the darkness, it's not quite as terrorfying as when you're walking around a room, and something falls off of the shelf that you just passed (for no reason).

^_^ Silent hill is master of the creepy atmosphere. ^_^
RE has neat characters and story base. Plus some scaryness. Some. RE: revisited was the scariest since the origonal.

And as for controls, I think the standard controls are perfect. ^_^ When I move in the games, I don't move like a gimp. I move like a person moves. If I need to turn and run, I do the little 180 turn and high tail my ass outta there. ^_^ So either I'm really good with those controls (i'd like to think that they're just fine), or some people just really suck with those controls.

Either way, I hope that the controls never change. Maybe neat little additions they threw into RE3: Nemesis. There were some nifty little dodge manuvers you could do on the fly. ^_^

I like the controls in RE and SH, and I agree that the atmosphere in SH is better than RE.. but I still think SS2 takes the cake. lol That's just personal opinon though. ;) The only thing I didn't like about RE and to a much lesser extent SH is the bad camera angles. You can be walking down a corridor filled with zombies and as it usually happens, unless you hear them, you have no idea that they were there until you walk into them. I would figure that your character is able to look down a hallway and see zombies instead of looking from a weird isometric view and being a total clutz/aka zombie food. lol Well, could just be the player too.... Hmm. lol

If nobody noticed, thinking zug zug was Raganrok, Zug zug is the Orcs in Warcraft III, in world of Warcraft.
