Wow, that article makes enough sense to be quite scary. I think I'll do some more reading on that.

Problem is, it's doubtful anyone in the industry will EVER take it seriously, considering the costs involved with trying to completely redesign the evolution of audio compression.

The idea of sound compression was indeed started by the industry. While mp3 wasn't specifically designed by industry, it was recognized immediately as THE sound-compression standard.

So perhaps I should rephrase:

The people of the world are a bunch of bloody morons who wouldn't help to change the evolution of audio compression standards because they don't give a f*** about that article and probably don't believe a word of it. (e.g. See Thoughts on: Environmental Protection, Population Boom, Oil Company Dependancy)

I've always been biased towards lossless compression.
(i.e I prefer PNG over JPG even tough PNG is larger)
(I prefer uncompressed or redundancy compression over lossy mp3 etc)
same with video etc. DivX and DVD is cool, but lossy.

Problem is quality/non-lossy methods use so much storage space.

If it was up to me I'd love to see the GSP stream at
96khz stereo, uncompressed :P

But that wont happen until um 2096 I bet :P hehe....
