I mean its not that bad if there something barely anyone will reconize, like a minor character or something in a game, but the people with highass lvl mains can change their name, well i think so, ive heard after 30 you cant.

But if it is not allowed after 30, id have to ask why?

I tought it was if you were lev 20 or lower you could petition for nick change *shrug*.

I guess by the time you hit lev20 (or on the way to 20 etc)
You have a pretty good idea if this char is what you want to have as your main.

(i.e you make a testchar thingy. then realize it goes well and wanna use it as a main or secondary etc. I'd say between lev 10 and 20 you got a good idea if it's a char/proff you like or not... *shrug*

Pet names are fun, particularly if you find reason behind the name. I had fun naming my MP's pets after mythological Gods that made sense for the pet's purpose. Why? Well, because MP's can supposedly summon creatures from other realms, and it'd make sense to me at some MPs in character might just be fascinated with old-earth gods and goddesses. ...It also made it easier to hotkey stuff for pet commands and whatnot, heh. =p As for naming characters themselves... I normally find a name with a meaning I like. I collect names as a hobby and even have a long list of names with their meanings and the languages they come from posted on a website. I do agree though, with what Metalynx said. I hate it when someone doesn't know how to turn their cap locks off, when they beg me for items, money or buffs (asking for a buff is fine, preferrably from a person who knows how to use the words "please" and "thank you"). Now, I only speak English. Plain English. I don't even understand "dood" or "l33t" speak... so people who use those "languages" find themselves on ignore really fast. It's fine if they want to talk to others of their "kind" who comprehend the text like that... but when I tell them to speak using normal English so that I can understand what they want, and they refuse to do so... it's just rude and annoying, and I'd rather not waste my time on them. I try to treat everyone equally until they give me reason to do otherwise, and even if I right away dislike someone who approaches me, for whatever reason, I still try to be polite.

Dont get bent out of shape. like I said..90% of the peeps with names liek that have a calculator next to theri puter...and CLicksaver...and Nano Nanny..and a dozen web pages that they can goto to get the latest on how to twink theri character.

*hides his calculator under the piles of empty Code Red cans and empty cigarette packs on his desk, minimizes his NanoNanny, moves his Favorites to some obscure directory*

What? Me? I have no idea what you're talking about...

Hey now, there's nothing wrong with nano nanny. It's honestly useful if you're new to making implants since it helps you figure out what you can and can't use -before- you waste money on it, or in my case since I have an MP, it's helped me figure out what she can and can't make, since I was helping a friend decide what QL to go with on some implants, but they didn't want to have to pay a lot for someone else to make'em. ...And really, though, why have a calculator when the windows operating system comes with one? Hehe. I think calculators are useful too, though, for when I do group with friends and we go on missions. I normally get stuck carrying the loot until we're out of the mission, so I keep track of exactly how much cash was made and whatnot so that it's equal for everyone, and using a calculator saves me time and a piece of paper, because I write everything down. Save the trees and all, y'know? So those things can be justified. *nods*

BAH!!! dont get your panties in a twist...my intentions were that many peopel make a character not to play AO ..to interact with the environment and interact with other people...they make a character to push the limits and "Beat" everyone else (Win beat, better then etc). Sure it may be fun to them....but I dont see much reason to play a online game if all I do is hardly interact with other people..and squelch every last bonus, Ip, Buff and Special item on my character that I can.

And most peopel who have that mentality, dont put much effort into thinking a name (they just think a silly name or whatever pops into theri head and type it in...if that doesnt work they ad a 666 on the end etc).

Pet names are another story. Have fun withthem I say! :p

A small comfort you can take Metalynx is that most power gamers like are around for maybe 6months to a year... unless they get really famous then they are around until someone topples them.

Really some people are power gamers that like interaction... like those helpful folks that explain the game to those that have no clue... I know I ran into some of those types usually they are polite, helpful, curteous, but still seeking a lot of ass kicking ability. ;)

I myself get drawn into the community, I like finding a good group of people to guild with and places to post about the game and well just RL shiznit. I also know I am pretty bad at using shortcuts or acronyms when chatting/talking (omg, brb, bbl, lol, lmao, wth, wtf, afk, etc) just a habit from IRC thats hard to break... but I try to stay true to myself and my character in game.

And yeah I have to aggree the worst is a twink character that balantly expects your services even if they are rude.

my name actually has a fair amount of history to it:
A few years ago (maybe 3 or 4) when I was playing planescape:torment alot, I named myself Morte in a chatroom after my favorite character from the game. There someone told me it meant death in French. One day i found i couldn't get morte at a website so it became morte_man. I used that for a while but i didn't really like the sound of it. So about half a year ago i became dark morte :)

I think AO actually has a much more social atmosphere than most of the other online multiplayer games I've tried. In AO there's almost always someone in the clubs when I stop by, and often it's people who are actually roleplaying. On, say, EQ... the only time you ran into people in taverns, was when it involved some quest or mission. No one ever went to those places to have parties or anything like that. I agree though, for the most part. No point to play an online multiplayer game if all you want to do is belittle other players. Well... not an online multiplayer game like AO. Now if you're going to go play something like Unreal Tournament.... Well, that's half the point (so to speak... that game is meant to be a competition, not roleplaying, but it doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it either way).

And I like the name, Morte. Reminds me of a band I like. ^_^ If you're interested in names, the languages they come from, and their meanings, you can check http://www.sadisticandshattered.com/nam ... _names.htm for some male names and http://www.sadisticandshattered.com/nam ... _names.htm for some female names.

Ive always wanted to try and roleplay, it seems perfect for ao, its got a story unlike EQ, and theres the clubs and such to do so.

As for twinking, Bah, go put your head in the flames like most of us are doing, my mains poor- lvl 50 gimped ma, so my alt Torandorum, is having to struggle (Upgradin my Div 9 free via the bank isnt really struggling, but still) to get to where he can pvp, and Ill face PVP with my own brass Atrox Balls! I wont go online or use a guide and Ill get my ass handed to me by someone who did, but I'll have, I'll have... Ill have the pride of gettin my ass kicked but knowing what to do next time.

And back to the names, it gets less common nowadays, if people choose names they choose something not known all over (Like all those "Vegeta,Gohan" guys name themselves Tien or something), I mean I used the name Adun awhile ago, it was from starcraft but only a few people noticed it, and they liked the name.

Still funny to see a lvl 200 guy named "mr.fixit", "Fixrus", "Doc___".
