Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Shinobi

Postby Kaiur » Sat Dec 07, 2002 2:17 am

I don't usually rant and rave about games that I play on my console systems...

...but these are two of the greatest games I've ever played.

GTA:VC is hilariously engrossing, and you'll be playing Spot the Star with all the voice actors in it. I'm still not sure of all of them. It's not even part of my favored genres, those being RPG, Fighters, or Sims.

Shinobi, however, is a fighter-hybrid, and just kicks all fucking ass, period. This is probably the best remake of a vintage franchise ever assembled, Metal Gear: Solid included.

Yeah, Shinobi wont win a reward for being best story or something, but the gameplays fucking amazing. Its fast pased, balls-on-dawall fighting, and extruciating at times.

Vice citys good, its not taking up all my time though, I mean its fun but i did most of that stuff in GTA 3 before.

Burt Reynolds, Ray Liotta is the voice of the main character you play, Luis Guzman (Traffic, Count of Monte Cristo), Danny Trejo ( Desperado, Runaway Train), NFL Legend Lawrence Taylor, and Gary Busey (Under Siege, Rookie of the Year, Blacksheep ), Jenna Jameson as Candy... yes Jenna Jameson THE PORN STAR as Candy THE PORN STAR!

There are others but these are the ones I could pick out at my brother's house... I don't own any consoles... I am a PC Gamer straight from the days of old...

Yeah GTA: Vice City is kinda like GTA III Part II but it is set in the 80s in Vice City with different people. Lots of the GTA III stars are in it though. Like Donald Love much younger.

GTA: Vice City is the prequel to GTAIII. tough graphic/looks/contents and freedom of things you can do is 10 times better tough.

You can fly helikopters, drive motorcycles/dirtbikes/speedbikes/harleys.
Pizza boy scooter, boats.

every single mission/event is part of the "story" if you will. you even gt a cell phone some annoying peeps call ya on :P

The music etc is just awsome :)

Timewise Vice City is set 20 years before GTAIII.
In GTAIII Lazlo (the host of Chatterbox station) mentioned he used to host a rockstation a long time ago.
in vice City hehe we can hear the young Lazlo doing his rock station :)

There is also 7 albums with the majority of the musical content from the game on them. (Sony music) and each album has the music of each station. I.e one V-Rock album (Lazlo's station)...

Vice City has much more appeal to just "cruise around and do silly stuff" than GTAIII ever had :)

Vice city made the Game of The year, heck even Ragnar Tørnquist plays it :P

Heh! I told a friend about Vice City and he bought it, haven't seen him since so guess he's still playing :P

The story is simple and hinted to you straight at the start.
Your Vince (i think that's his name) a crook *big surprise :P*
You were betrayed/had to high tail out of Vice City to columbia or somewhere. now you back, for revenge and taking over the business of all the othe big guys and holding Vice City in your graps at your throne.
(I don't know the ending tough even if I did I wouldn't spoil it :)

Your path to power is odd tough.
Later you can buy land/buildings. like a icecream factory (that realy isnt into icecream production :P
A porn studio (director of the studio there is voiced by Dennis Hopper :P
import/export shop, shipyard etc. All generate income.
Heck you can buy your own stripclub even hehehe...
Ever wanted a really biig mansion with 2 garages, a limo, a boat in your own mansion dock/pier? you can get that in Vice City hehe.

vice City blends the story/content/freedom of choice/movemvejt nice indeed. there is barely a place you can't go to. you can also walk in7out of buildings. use elevators etc. you got a hotel room with a view even :)

Yeah i'm geeked, and as soon as I get my hands on a PS2 I'm getting Vice City as it's No1 on my list :) proly half a year untila PC release comes so *shrug*

I haven't got to play Vice City, yet, but watched some friends playing. Somehow... They managed to blow their helicopter up earlier in the game, so I didn't get to see it. However, they stole a lot of motorcycles/dirtbikes. Now those are nice! I don't remember being able to steal motorcycles in GTA3, so Vice city is much more appealing to me. Plus the graphics are better than what I remember of GTA3.

Graphics wise GTA: VC is just a sligltly updated GTA3, meaning the only feature added to the exsisting engine is the Particle/Light Stream effects that give it that soft light, 80s retro felt... otherwise exact same graphics.

The content in GTA: VC is huge though which was mentioned some what above. However they also mentioned a half year until PC release... hate to burst anyone's bubble but SONY has an EXCLUSIVE four year license to GTA: VC so you won't see it on any other consoles or the PC until 2006.

Unless RockStar built in provisions for a PC version that goes around the console exclusive contract.

As far as I can tell no one mentioned how you can jump off bikes and out of cars... and pop wheelies on some of those niffty bikes.

Completely forgot about that! Yes, you can jump out of cars and stuff, watchedmy lunatic friend jump out of one while it was speeding in the direction of a few cop cars. Also to be noted... Motorcycles do -not- work well on the beach. My friend repeatedly learned that lesson the hard way... or, well, maybe the fact that they didn't learn it was more the thing. ...They also have Michael Jackson's music on one of the stations. O.o;
