The ones with the orange colored note icon are new or have been responded to since your last visit. (mark forums read when you're done reading them)

White note icons are ones you have already read with no new content.

although PHPBB has a bug that if your login times out, then ALL topics get marked read. Not a problem if you have it set to automatically log you in.

The bug I wasn't aware of, but it is as he says that the orange icons mark that there are new content there.

It still remains there until you "mark all read" or read it.

So logging out does not mark all read. Just the ones you have actually read.

And no I cannot make any real modifications to the code since it's not mine, and I have to little knowledge of the PHPBB code itself.

Hmm! ok!

You see. when you login a cookie is checked as to when you last was here!
(i think thats the way).

When you are done you logout again. and the cookie is reset.

Next time you login the cookie is replaced with new info again.

In other words this forum and your system only remember the last time
you visited.
It does remember what posts etc you have read while logged in,
but it doesnt store/remember any info on exactly what posts you did or did not read.
It just remembers/stores when you last visited.

Maybe there is some improved functions/system available out there.
Something to put on your ToDo list Xtrophic :P
