Put it on the high corner.

I made it a habbit to have a emergency stash of 1k on the bank. Just in case. Plus it is a good feeling to have some money on the bank. Just leave it there, never touch it.

2nd step would be building up a emergency stash of 250 to 500 in currency stowed away at home.

3rd step: Enforce this rule of thumb: Save enough money from your current income to cover all your dependencies for three months and put it in a account which can be quickly liquidated should you need the money.

If you've done that, you no longer need to worry about money (unless you have to tap that emergency fund).

...

...

...

Something this reasonable out of my mouth! I must be getting old! :?

To my dad, who's probably like Dave Ramsey (whoever he is), if that means he's a guy telling people to hold money close and tight and take up responsibility for yourself.

:?

Yeah, I hear you.

However I learned the value of a emergency stash a few years ago when my car broke down and I was faced with a hefty bill from the repair shop. Two weeks later my TV went the way of the DoDo...

Now that sucked.

A lot.

after getting to a middle age of sorts & having tons of crap happen to me over the years I save as much as I can in the bank now for emergencies

I realize many can't do that - I am in a spot where I make enough - my expenses are lowish & I am not buying tons of uneeded stuff (other than Lego 10221)
