The big reveal??

Postby Dynamiks » Tue Mar 27, 2012 12:54 pm

Wow... It's on facebook... it's on the AO forums... suppodsedly something to blow minds...(could only be the new gfx emgine!!!)

So I looked... Another cutesy video!

My opinion: Well it looks pretty... pretty ordinary for 5 years of development!.... So far for our 5 years of waiting, we have had 3-4 very short videos - none of which include player characters or player interaction with each other or the mobs... just scenes, water and a couple of mobs.. oh and renders of heads... LOTS of renders of heads....

When I see development in similar games almost as old (Eve is 9 this year) and the comparative changes and growth I start to wonder...

At this rate: I predict AO will be on one server only (oh wait...) and TSW will have launched peaked and died before AO gets a BETA of the mythical new engine.... about 2016...

please prove me wrong

DIsclaimer Warning: what follows is a blatant Eve online Ad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI53ydJaus8 - but damn it looks awesome, Dust 514 and Eve will be interatcing with each other this year! yum

Awesome! Finally some apparent progress.
The infamous "Coming Soon(â„¢)" at the end of the teaser does make a bit uneasy though. :D

lol

While it's tempting to side with the majority and say, "They're taking way too long," I love Funcom too much to bash them. :P I am sure they have their raisins for why the engine isn't out yet. May is shaping up to be a big MMO month what with Tera, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2(maybe), etc etc coming out. So AO does need to shape up soon unfortunately :(

With all of the patches, maintenance time and progress we've seen in the last few months, I have very high hopes for Lindelu and Ilaliya. Their motivation is apparent, and from the times I've spoken with Lindelu, the energy she brings to what she does is contagious. We're in great, capable hands here and I have a pretty good feeling we're going to see steady, continued progress with the crew that has taken over. Props to them for giving us another peek at their work. Maybe next time we'll see more, but I'm certainly not going to complain that the vid is "all we got."

Patience is a virtue they say.

I'm fine with that. Gives me more time to put some money on the high corner to get a high-end rig, because I doubt my old laptop will have the power to run 2nd generation AO properly.

(Yes, I know, it probably can handle it anyway since even the hardest GFX update won't be so demanding since the code of AO is like 15 years old and has it's limits, BUT I need a reason to buy a new, more powerful machine... don't tell anyone!)

Another sponge-bath?
