eh, I filled out the form and just got a messege that I'll get an email once the conflict starts. So, The Secret War hasn't actually started yet?

Not exactly Tasty.

In some ways it has started if you consider information/intelligence gathering to be part of a war. The "broken timer" gave us an opportunity to find out more about a 4th faction, The Phoenicians. We've also found out that the Counsil of Venice has been compromised. An ambassador has been elected to speak for us and commune with group that calls themselves "The Dark Places" via their twitter account(@thedarkplaces). It seems this is not a new friend but an old friend or an old enemy depending on one's perspective. However, in times like this it is perhaps best to remember the old adage and keep your friends close but your enemies closer. So far we have few answers, but I feel confident that progress will be made.

Meanwhile others are steadfastly making progress on the puzzle. Ninety-nine of us were fortunate enough to be sent a piece of the puzzle. It is up to us to assemble our pieces and decypher the message contained on it. We're close to a solution now.

There are some who believe that these things are not related. However, I happen to believe that the timing is too coincidental for there not to be a connection.

Things are coming together and then the war begins.

Couldn't have summed it up better myself (seriously, there's absolutely no way I could have).

I totally missed the whole Super Bowl ARG that led to the puzzle pieces :(. Are you sure the Puzzle Pieces ARG is actually sponsored by Funcom and not just coming from Nyte at CryGai.net?

Thanks!!

Mailing out all those pieces is a pretty big expense for an individual. I gotta believe Funcom is behind this one. Not to mention we had a twitter pic from one of the devs...can't remember if it was Martin or which one... it was a completed part of the puzzle. So they have (or had) a copy of it.

Oh and The Superbowl thing wasn't an ARG to start. It was one of those football pool grids. We just picked squares at random is all. Nyte left one space open for Wild. Since Wild won the pool, we all won. It worked out really well. The rest just fell into place. There was a long delay between the pool and the mailing of the pieces. I'm assuming that coming up with the puzzle idea is the reason behind the delay. I'm also guessing that Nyte was asked to hold off on mailing until it was closer to the beta announcement. That way they could be sure that we'd have a start on it before they announced, but that we wouldn't have completed it and then be stuck wondering "what next?"

Thanks for the clarification! :)
That is pretty flipping awesome :). What other mainstream game does shit like this? Seriously, the ARG's are great fun. Even though I really can't contribute because the shit usually goes over my head, it's always awesome to watch these people come up with these connections and find the right answers :).

I agree with you. I was so freakin proud of my contribution to the the Sanctuary of Secrets solution. However, since then, I've barely been able to do much more than contribute the random observation here or there. If there is something I get an idea about it's generally already been posted, discussed, and dismissed before I can finish typing up my thoughts. These people are fast as shit and so much happens when I can't really dedicate any time to it. Not to mention that much of this stuff is way over my head. But it is great fun to watch and be part of.

I've been doing a ton of catching up on old ARG information through reading the forums and the wiki, and it's been fascinating! Most of the stuff is way over my head, but I love watching the brainiacs figure it out. I saw that you solved one of the puzzles Valli. Way to go! :)

I have contributed exactly jack and squat ><. I try to but like Valli says, other people have thought of it first and already dismissed it haha.

One day I will.....ONE DAY!! *shakes fist and looks diagonally up and left into the distance*

Thanks!

It was an easy one to solve so the fact that I got it first was more right place at the right time than anything. My timing has not been so good since. :)

As you guys are noticing though the TSW community does seem to have a higher average IQ than most gaming communities. I'm hoping this bodes well for the game. But it also worries that any in game puzzles are going to be solved and spoiled on the forums before I can even get my brain around them.

I'm sure those spoiler threads will either be deleted or have a huge SPOILER tag on them. So if you do happen to come across one and read it, it's your own damn fault :P.

LOVE YOU! :)

Oh good. And here I was coming out of my hiding place and wondering if there would be any GSP-folk presence in TSW (even if GSP does not choose to make such a transition). Good to see I'm not the only cool person geeking out for this game. ;)

I'm pretty sure most of us are going Dragon although we never really had a collective thought about it heh. I just notice that peoples facebook profile pics now have the Dragon logo :).

Funcom counts as "Indie"?

does this make us some kind of techno-hipsters now?

Hopefully with the extra time we don't see another standard funcom launch.

Don't really see how people can say that AoC's launch was bad, but then again, results may differ.

Will be very interesting to see and try out the concept, at least. Hell, it might just be my new addiction.

Publishing their own work rather than working for one of the major labels makes them an independent publisher and developer, I guess. I think I'd still have trouble calling a company with multiple live MMOs and divisions in three countries "Indie", but did you catch that part where TSW is now being published by Electronic Arts? That kinda kicks them back out of that category anyway.

And no, playing a 10 year old MMO is what makes us techno-hipsters. Playing a free indie MMO just means you're poor.

Don't really see how people can say that AoC's launch was bad,

The fact that the game crashed within 5 minutes of me starting it up every single time for the included month and that they said that they knew of my problem, and that they couldn't do anything about it and told me it was a problem with my brand spanking new video card, but would not give me a free month to make up for the fact that I couldn't play at all and that this exact same thing happened to thousands of other people, counts as a pretty bad release in my book. :P

Oh, I take it back. I did stay ingame longer a couple times. Instead of the game crashing outright, the graphics bugged and everything became little blocks and then my character fell through the floor..... and then I crashed.

The game was completely unplayable for anyone that had the same graphics card I did, and there were several different problems with other cards as well, and the Conan customer service's reaction to our problem was more or less, "to bad, so sad, sucks to be you". In fact, the CSR's response was that I should shop another graphics card and that it wasn't thier fault that the game wasn't compatable......

It wasn't until 3 months after release that the problem even got fixed. And I never did get credit for that included month that I completely wasted. From others I talked with who had the same problem, none of them did.

......

Mind you, this isn't me harping on Funcom. Its not the whole company's fault that upon release the Conan CSR team were dickheads.

AO was considered a bad release and there weren't nearly as bad horrar stories that came out of it. Conan actually had a lot of the same issues as AO did on release. But to add to that there was the fact that for the first 3 months it wasn't compatable with several of the graphics cards from a major brand name.
