vinyl ripping

got my Pyle Pro pre-amp and its hooked up to my Pioneer PL590

Currently using NCH's Golden Records Vinyl to rip. My only true issue is that it doesn't connect to cddb or any other online database for inputting the mp3 tags. I have to do those manually. Just wondering what ever one else uses.

I use a turntable with a proper needle and stuff and record it through my input on my sound card.

I have to tag everything manually as well.

Wow dude, I haven't worked with vinyl since 1999 back when I cued up records the old fashioned way for the polka station I DJ'ed for. I have zero clue about taking it digital. Sorry

way back when I was encoding my old vinyls into mp3s, I just used one of my 1210's fed into my mixer which was then fed into Line-in on my soundcard.

from there it's purely a software recording thing (insert sound recording software of choice here).

needing to manually enter ID tag info is something you'll always have to do when recording from an analog source (vinyl or cassette etc) as there's no possible way for an online service to verify the file information from audio recorded this way.

that's what i was afraid of. currently trying to rip Duke Ellington "Ellington Uptown" 1955 pressing. The problem i am having with it is that i can't get the software to magically make the breaks.

My Bronski Beat album was cut perfectly so at the end of each song, it would drop to -52db(Noise floor) and the software would say END OF SONG! with the Duke, it seems that there was no standard Noise floor (ie song can drop to -52db then pickup again) and each song is different. Hence a lot more work. Oh well, its fun!

Did anyone else think of the rubber catsuit when clicking on this topic? Just me? Eh, I'm okay with that.

I've never tried this myself, but it does sound fun. I have an old record player in storage somewhere and offered to encode some of my dad's old vinyl, but he never got around to finding them. He just listens to Pandora now, anyway. Still, this is good info in case he ever does dig them up, or I find some myself.

just an update. been using VinylStudio, that once you rip the album, has a database function that searches the net for the ablum then magically puts in the breaks and does the idv3 tags.

I love software.
