Man that sucks.

I hope once you're done kicking it you give it a decent burial.

Here's hoping you won't be out of commission too long! *hugs*

Ugh. I hate it when that happens. Odds are the hard drive has a standard SATA interface, so you can probably plug it into your friend's computer or whatever you get next and try to get your data back. Hard drives are one of the least shockproof parts of a notebook, so it's not likely, but it's worth a try.

Is it under warranty? If it is, it might be worth asking if they'll take it back and give you some credit toward a new one. They probably won't just replace it once they've seen the circuits jarred loose from that drop. If it's not under warranty, you, or a friend who's into electronics, could take the case apart, see if anything's obviously coming loose, and try to put if back in place. It can be very hard to do that with all the tiny little parts in a noteboook, but it might be worth trying. Unfortunately, the hard drive is probably shot, especially if it was powered up when it fell.

Good luck, Jiri! Hope you can find a way back online soon!

Ouchie! That's something that I think about every time I carry my laptop. It's so not fair that something so expensive just breaks and dies when you drop it. They need to make clutz-proof laptops. I'll sign up for one of those!

Good luck getting things going again, Jiri.

replacing a laptop screen? not feasible, cheaper to buy a new one then repair the screen.

I would think it wouldn't be economical to replace the screen. I buy all my stuff from geeks.com refurbished. My lappie is actually pretty kickass, and it was dirt cheap through them. Never had any problem with their refurbished stuff either. Tarryk's been buying from them for years.

Replacing a screen is near impossible, or at least compared to the cost of a new laptop. Save your hard drive, and pick up a decent used laptop if you know where to go. Places like Best Buy usually have a couple deals on open box stuff, but its can still get pricy. For about 5-20$ you can get a cable to make your old hdd work in a usb port so you save all of your data. If you wanna go the extra mile your notebook RAM chips might sell for a few bucks to your local used electronic store, or kijiji.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the rest of the replies here. Notebooks just aren't made to be repaired that way by end users and the cost of having it repaired by a shop, if you can even find one willing to try, would likely exceed the cost of replacing it. That's a good portion of the reason I don't have one. A refurbished replacement and an external USB enclosure for the 2.5" (probably SATA) hard drive sound like your best bet. Then you can copy your data from the old hard drive to the new notebook and keep the old drive around as a spare/backup/external drive. You just have to be careful with it. A cheap external enclosure will protect the drive even less than a plastic notebook chassis.

Or just carry around both a notebook and a separate flat screen monitor and use them only where you can plug both in. That's not a particularly good solution, either.

Good luck, Jiri!

so basicly your saying my 1000$ laptop is not junk cause the screen from what i can tell is only thing thats busted on it? im not sure i 100% agree with buying a new one just for the sake that a new screen i can replace will cost me a few hundred or so.

i understand what your all saying i just dont wanna just this laptop when its only a year old -.- specially when i dont have money to even buy a new laptop

Well... you could try... and this is just a simple suggestion. But maybe just maybe you can try to shop around a bit, and actually find out what it costs to replace/repair and then make a decision on your own. Just sayin'.
