Playing the Game

Postby Vallikat » Thu Jul 11, 2013 2:02 pm

I have to admit, I have really enjoyed the Guardians of Gaia event. I have bad framerates (often less than 1) and crash a lot. However, there's something really special about coming together as a community that I have really enjoyed. I've gotten all bosses and lores now except Fusang. I've got a bunch of flares, some bullions, signets, and 4 pets as loot. Still looking for the eyepatch, but considering I wasn't thinking of participating at all, I think I've made out pretty well. :)

So last night I took stock of my inventory. I saw that I had acquired some level 10 gear at some points (some I know came from Dyna but not sure on all of it). Before all this I couldn't equip that gear, but I can now. I even managed to use my shiny new signets. So with my mix of green and blue 10's and still 2 7's I decided to go back to the last mission I was in when really playing, Tyler Freeborn. I'm at the Guardian's Cave right now and despite using up a lot of potions I don't know if I can yet beat it (I'm going to look today for some strategy guides). I'm not sure what that says about my ability to do Issue 6 (and thus get my whip) but I feel closer to it now.

More importantly I'm enjoying the game again. :)

So what has anyone else thought of the event? Has it made you take a second look at the game as it did for me? Any tips on getting past the Guardian?

Oh and just to go back to my first paragraph for a sec, does anyone have any tips on how a clueless PvP noob can get the Fusang lore?

Starting in reverse ...

Fusang Lore:
Head to the center of Fusang, It's on the little garden thing, right in front of the Centre Facility.
It can take a few seconds to load, especially if the guardian is up. You may get shot a lot.
Just shout out that you're after the lore, and hopefully folks will leave you be (as soon as you thank you after picking it up - for Gods sakes don't say it beforeyou pick it up - I give you about 3 seconds before you're splatted.)

If the guardian is up your screen rate will probably crash you - it's got the heaviest slowdown I've seen of the event.

Issue 6 - in QL 10 you should be fine. Hardest part (for me) is one of the floor tile puzzles (so I use the alternate means available to me granted by being full wheel). If I'm on, and you want to do it (especially if it's a weekend) holler, and I'll group up with you - I'll have at least one toon off of cooldown on it.

The event!
IS!
AWESOME!
Now the teething troubles are out of the way I'm loving it to little fishy bits. I have, I think, all the costume parts (on my main - working on Dasch now) and all bar one of the pets (on my main, Dasch gets sloppy seconds on pets)
The Eye Patch, Valli, is in Solomon Island - it can drop off any of the first three bosses.
Loot bags are tradable - I will happily trade ANY loot bag I have to get City of the Sun God loot bags! (for the one pet Kailz is missing)
I will be online from around 9pm tonight looking for more boss kills ....

Thanks Dasch. :)

When I enter Fusang am I open to PvP immediately or is there a grace period of any sort? It generally takes awhile for my screen to load and it sounds like it's going to be worse there. So when you're saying the "little garden thing" I might need a little time to even see where that is so that I can start running towards it. I will be sure to let people know that I'm there for lore though and hope for the best I suppose.

I've done the Solomon Island bosses multiple times so far trying for that eyepatch. The one I dislike though is blue mountain. I just don't like the path that has to be run from the anima well. I'm slowed down enough as it is without having a wendigo on my tail (and I have things set so low/turned off that I often don't see them until I'm being attacked). I still go for it though. I want to be a pirate! :)

Yarrggghhh! (I'll mail you a couple of Solomin island bags)

OK, if youve never been in to Fusang I'll try to give you the skinny.
When you first load in, you'll be in the Lumie base. You're totally safe there - there's firecefields stopping anyone geting in.

As soon as you step past the blue field, you're fair game.
So, here's a map of Fusang
Image

Now, on the left there's three orange circles showing three animals (cuirrently lumie but they change hands regularly - they're pvp objectives) further left than those is the Lumie start point.
You need to get from there to the very centre of the map. The centre is on two levels you need to be on the lower level. In the centre is a rock-garden thing.
On the edge of the rock-garden-thing, nearest to the green circle just left of centre is the lore item.

It's not a straight run, as you can see - you should be safe (and relatively low lag) until you reach the inner area. If the boss is up there's likely to be a ceasefire in effect (there was last time I was there with a boss up) so getting the lore should be safe, if slide-show.

You can actually bring friends to help you with the Guardian Cave, if it's the one I think it is. It's not a solo instance. I had a lot of trouble with my DPS gear when I first did the quest but it was easy with my solo/tank gear second time.

The guardian cave is Tyler Freeborn (I always the survival fight tougher than the cave), I think it's the Cairo chain Valli needs as she wants the whip. ...

I mean the puzzle in the city beneath us (i think is that one) with the fire and the floor plates.

Nope Dasch, I mean Tyler Freeborn. I was finishing that chain first since I was in process on it when I stopped playing. (you silly people have a radio station or something taking up all my time. :P). The point I was making was that if I can't finish Issue 5, I'm not sure how I will fair with Issue 6.

However, if I can get help either way, I'm good with that. Thanks guys! :)

BTW, I'm following the advice on the forums and playing with nametags off to reduce lag in the boss fights, so if you see me and I don't say hi it's because I don't know it's you. :)

Ok I made the most of my one and probably only time in Fusang. I got the lore and I took a few swipes at the guardian so I ended up with a pet as well.

Thanks for the map Dasch, it helped. :)

They made the fusang bag unique after the hot fix. My guess is they increased the drop on the pets as well for pve types like me to stand a chance. Pure guess on that last part tho.

I actually had a blast with this event, with what I had time for.

The coming together of the community to organize an effort to spot the golems and zerg them, and then keeping each other informed and having a MU contact... +1 - for me, that was amazing to see. It excites me when a community makes things like that happen. :D
