This is just my opinion, and I warn you it is a strong one, but personally I do not want to remember MJ the child molester. I just have very strong feelings to the way that whole situation was handled. But that is all I will say on this, others are free to oppose my opinion.

Personally, I'm a fan of MJ (and I don't believe for a second that he ever did anything like that, I'm positive it was just greedy parents looking for a meal ticket from a slightly-disturbed megastar who "fits the profile"), but I too do not wish to really offer up any tributes. The only reason for this is the disturbing non-stop barrage of "tributes" that have already completely saturated the entire internet and broadcast industry, on every medium, for the past 24 hours.

I'll probably play an MJ song and say a quick piece on it, but beyond that, the death of a great talent has been utterly annihilated by the global hype his death has caused. I think I've had quite enough of it already, myself.

I've never been a fan of MJ and I could never bring up any sympathy. I do like some of his songs, but mostly because they bring back childhood memories.
I think it's sad for his fans and I'm aware that he enriched music, but, as Tarryk already mentioned, the media hype ridicules a lot. As tragic as his death is to his fans, I already know I will be annoyed to the point of anger in the coming weeks because of all the tributes in the media.
It's OK to play a song to remember him; his fans will probably like that. I personally don't mind, but I don't care either.
I don't care if he was the King of Pop or some small car dealer, I just wish him peace like I'd wish any other person.

looking at him as a performer and pop artist, i'm not sure we'll see another of his ability in our generation, everyone else is trying to be cardboard copies.

his personal life, despite how amazingly messed up it was, was "always" demonised and pre-judged in the mainstream media...and now even 24hr news channels are ignoring other important news events and stories to show/cycle tributes/interviews. now the media love him and celebrities are all over the place claiming to love him and miss him.

how quickly pop-icons and the mainstream media show their true colours, they're all two-faced media attention seekers ¬_¬

it's sad for the music world, but the mainstream media will be kicking the shite outta this dead horse until it becomes a crime

Farrah Fawcett died too, she made a massive impression of many teenage boys in the 70's/early 80's..

I think if MJ had not died on the same day as Farrah there would be a whole lot more coverage of her death (nothing to the MJ level mind you). He basically stole her thunder. She was swept aside instantaneously.

Its sad... very sad and I agree completely Valli.
As soon as I heard the news, that was my thought... it wasn't OMG Michael is dead! It was OMG Farrah doesn't even get her "day"... its gone "poof" faded... I mean hell Ed McMahon got more coverage than she got because he got "a day"!
He was a great performer but he wasn't any more "important' than any one else.

I suspect part of the reason for blanket coverage of Michael Jackson's death is purely selfish. For decades, he's been very important to the people who decide what's news. Any time he went out in public, anything he did or said, or anything that was said about him, was automatic news, requiring none of that difficult, awkward, and occasionally painful "thinking" that might otherwise be involved in a news story. This may be the last freebie they ever get from him. At least I hope it will be, but there's still the chance of some scandal or other turning up.

The tabloids won't miss him as much. The same people who read the other trash about him will still read reports that he faked his death to go work at a Chuck E Cheese in Des Moines.

Farrah was less "News Worthy" but I see that as a good thing. She'll be remembered for her work and the smiles (of whatever sort) she gave us without it being overshadowed by allegations, controversies, and bad jokes.
