President Obama is in town today.
No I'm not going to go and try and get a glimpse of him. His security is tight and he's not going to be exposed to the public for more than 20 seconds. He's come to Canada to sell his economic reforms and recovery bill to America's #1 trade partner. It's a harder sell than you'ld imagine since Canada hasn't really suffered alot and our present government is very pro-Bush style fundie ignore the economy and distract people with foreign wars. Yay big business and screw the poor and middle classes.
I've said for the last 8 years that our Prime minister has had his head up Bush's ass.
I'm not expecting this will change.
Also Obama wants to dismantle NAFTA and renegotiate the deal. Seeing as America has proven over and over that they don't respect any deals they make anyways I don't much see the point. But sure dismantle NAFTA. Just don't expect to get the too much it already gives the US this time around. Not sure what I'm talking about? Maple syrup and soft wood lumber. Farming and natural resources. Water and oil. I'll avoid the specifics of each of those but Canada gets the shaft on all of those things. Either by US market protectionism thats not supposed to exist under NAFTA or by US preferred pricing policies.
Having listened and looked at the US economic recovery plan I have to admit that I am worried that it's not a long term solution and that it'll only really help the economy short term while the new construction is taking place. It again doesn't help the poor or middle class much. And since rail is moving away from passengers it only really helps business.
And we've seen more than enough evidence that business just doesn't invest in comunities. The trickle down never does actually trickle down.
It's another the poor get poorer. The rich get richer and the middle class tightens their belts solution.
