That thing scares me.

I would have liked to have seen it turn around and kick that guy back.

on one hand so would I *smiles*
Sadly if it did do that they would have no choice but to 'put it down'

worrying thing is, that it will ultimately be used in military applications, and one day, you try and kick it over, it will turn a BIG gun on you...

and in this case, it's bite, will be worse than it's bark...

jsut wish that it was quieter when running outdoors.

As I said in my previous post, it is designed for military applications, with a load capacity of about 350lbs, would be (when they get a muffler) a useful little 'packmule' for soldiers.. though I am sure there are other applications aswell.. I like the one that has it running down the street behind a score of screaming people as it mows them down in a killer robot frenzy of blood

That's intersting. Especially the points where it regains its balance on slippery. Terminator version of Sony Aibo
Now if they'd change the engine to electrical with a solar cell on its back and send a few of these into Mars...

Also the carrying capacity is impressive. 340lbs is about 154kg, if I calculated right. ( 1lb = 454g so 340 * 454 = 154360g = 154,36kg) So basically it could be used as a mechanical pony.

Also, this goes well with the topic. Robot football:

that is freakin awesome, scary interia and balance reflex on it

i definately see it being used for military purposes...but think of some of the other uses like mountain rescue for skiers or snowboarders.

there are lots of possibilities :)

scary shizzle though

I like the back legs the most, watch it again and see how closely the back legs resemble human leg movement.

Bust it up in size, and we have AT-AT's...

And yes, sure it's meant to be a "pack mule" but we all know this thing will ultimately pack a gun, and run out on it's own... Murderin things... *sigh*.

We are, as a species, incapable of inventing anything that cant kill of other people... It's funny how, even after all this time and so called evolution... We're still stuck in the "penis envy" phase, with all our "They come to take our land and women... Kill them off!" attitude...

Counter Arguement: We are pathalogically incapable of building a 'machine' that is 1) capable of using deadly force (aka any firearm) and 2) out of our direct control.
We are rightfully aware that we make mistakes and having a self motive 'robot' armed and outside of direct control is the stuff of bad sci-fi.

It's not the robot that worries me... It's the nutter controlling it.

I never meant to imply that it was "out on it's own" in an intelligent sort of way. I merely meant that what you're looking at, is a next gen light anti infantry "vihicle". It will be controlled... Obviously. But it's destined to carry a gun, and go places and more effectively kill people, than a mere soldier could...

No you're right, we don't build things that are "out of our controll"... But the way I see it, most people are out of our controll. And when all is said and done, a machine is cynical in it's logic and approach to problems...
It might be uncaring for human emotions, and it might not take "morale" into account... But if a machine was ever to develop consciousness, it would be clean cut and cynical.
Fastest and most efficient way to solve a problem, is the one we use. It might not be nice. But it'd make sense.

People on the other hand, have a capacity for tenacious evil. Only we as a species have developed this.

We throw puppies of cliffs. Kill children and babies, and declare war on countries because we hate their way of life, despite never having met them.

We fly planes into monuments to make "a statement". We bomb countries that cannot in anyway defend themselves.

We don't have to go far back, before we set out in mass armies, to rape and pillage entire continents, for the sole purpose of "killing the darkie", and if someone makes fun of your imaginary friend or his 10 good ideas about how you should live, we try to kill them...

In short, with the slight exception of cats... We're the only ones around, who kill for fun.

Unlike cats. We know we're killing, and what this entails... And yet we still do it.

No... I'm really not worried about the machine.
