Old player has come home to AO..

Postby Culann » Tue Mar 04, 2008 1:05 am

Yup...it'd be me...

After a long hiatus from AO while playing other MMOs and growing increasingly dissatisfied with some of the things I experienced, me and the wife (Spiritminx) have returned to AO, and plan on being around for a *long* while.

Dunno if anyone remembers me..you may have heard on the rare occasion some of the music I wrote and sent to Gridstream way back..few things like "Lost Chapter", "Raging Dragon (Culann's theme)", "Wayfarer's Ballad (Spiritminx's theme), or what was apparently the most popular, "Hardcore War!".

The wife and I, upon coming back and finding so many changes, decided that we're going to level 2 new characters to 200 and re-learn the game and catch up on what we missed. Once done, we'll return to our mains, the NT & Adventurer and begin the process of overhauling them while we look for a new guild to call home.

And yeah..hey Tarryk. ;) Yes..I remember you, no doubts bout it. (grin)

Woohooooot! Welcome back, Culann my friend. Yes, I still play "Hardcore War" once in a while, still a great track. :) And certainly haven't forgotten you, by any means.

Thanks ladies, & gentlemen. =)

It's good to be back..there's so MUCH new stuff to learn!

OMG it's almost insane how much content Funcom has jammed in this game. I find myself at a loss as to what I need to do sometimes..my new lil Adventurer (Cullann) is level 42 now and levelling towards 50 before going into ToTW..which is a dungeon I actually remember.

After that..well I have no clue where to go..lol.. =)

Me and the wife still have to find a good guild on RK1 too..last time we were here, we were in Avatars Reloaded, and the folks there are great..the problem we ran in to, was that they are predominantly Euro, and at that point in time, alot of the rest of the general AO population seemed predominantly Euro too..which meant we were logging in when people were logging out...not a good fit in that respect. That, and on top, my beloved class..my favorite out of all 12, and probably my most fond and treasured character out of 12-13 MMOs, was seriously "broken"..the NT. Our tookit and options put us so far behind damage wise to other classes we were never taken in teams for the absolute most part.

It seems Lost Eden has solved that for most part and made them viable again..and it seems like the population isn't *quite* so Euro as it was before..appearances being what they are mind you.

Being as the wife and I are heartily tired of anything involving orcs or swords, and there's really NO..and I stress NO good Sci-FI MMOs out there that can even begin to compare to AO, it quite looks like we're going to be here for a long long time.

The wife and I feel very much as if we've finally come home..and it's a very very heartwarming and very satisfying feeling.

----

In more RL type stuff..yeah I'm still writing music..I finally decided to get serious about it and I sort of boggled everyone in my world.

Bout 4 years ago, I went back to college to actually get my degree since I never finished college. Last semester I finished my BA in Computer Science with focus on becoming a data engineer. Then..I turned everyone around me on their ear, by enrolling and starting on my second BA for technical music production...those guys you see behind the huge mixers with all the dials and knobs and stuff. Along side that I'm taking keyboard lessons and looking for someone who can teach me how to use either Fruityloops, Reason (I think there's a PC version now), Acid, or even Cubase SX.

I went out and bought a keyboard, MIDI controller, and basically overhauled one of our many machines here to serve as a music production machine. Software of course will be dependant on who I can find to teach me what, etc. (lol)

That said, I recall sending you guys Raging Dragon, Wayfarer's Ballad, Storming Thunder, and Hardcore War...since that point I've written quite a few other songs..debating on which I should send to you guys..dunno. Heh.

My musical interests, I have to admit, have also changed a bit..my wife has watched at a distance as I've "evolved" in her terms..I dunno..grown is perhaps more like it..there's just a ton of good artists / remixers out there I never knew existed before. Bout 2 years ago, I picked up Rhapsody and that's been the best $12 a month I think I've spent.

First and foremost is BT of course..he's still my favorite..then you have Christopher Lawrence, Sasha and John Digweed, Psykosonik, Micronaut, Sandra Collins, James Zabiela, Andy Hunter, Rosetta Stone...these were all my original favorite artists. However there's also Jan Hammer, and Harold Faltermeyer now also..I think what prompted me to look into new things was BT's last (?) CD called "This Binary Universe". It's...tremendous. It and the prior one, "Emotional Technology" are both excellent.

This has gone on too long already...my apologies for latching onto a stream-of-consciousness moment and flying off with it. It's good to be back, and sooner or later I'll be coming to visit you guys at one of your parties, etc. I still gotta figure which tunes I want to send you guys, if you're still taking those sorts of submissions, too.

Be safe folks, and remember: Kill it, and if you can't, outrun the hell out of it.
