Issue's!

Postby Dantwin » Mon Feb 11, 2008 11:00 pm

I wont be on AO for a little

it seems my download quota has been maxed, and hasn't been renewed.. still.

that and my computers old hard drive is now this computers G: drive, since me and my mom combined computers to create an ultra gaming machine.. but im finding more than a few faults now.. like this.

I've tried playing anarchy from my G: drive but it can't successfully download the anarchy patcher.. or something.. meaning I'll have to download anarchy online again, unless i figure out a way!

But never fear, i'll try and get on soon!

You'll have to reinstall any games you have on that G Drive that you plan on using. :) Programs and otherwise.

He's in Australia. Their internet setup has a download quota...rather than unlimited service. Like Time Warner is planning on doing.

If you still have the .exe installer, then at worst, you'll have to do some patching. :)

Sorry to hear that dantwin...you need to reinstall it unless you can find a registry entry on the net that you can get and then edit to your current AO install directory.

as to programs on g: .... this is something I have done a few times ...... delete any shortcuts on desktop for the program, then copy the program from g: to c:, then right click the client.exe and "send to desktop" this should create a new shortcut that will know the new location, .... a note *caution* do not delete it from g: till you have tested the moved folder.

If this works you now have a working program on c:. :D

Aee, just in.. sorry for double posting-- but I had it all set up to install again and start playing. when it said it couldn't find acess/permission for the folder Local C: / Program files / Funcom / anarchy / Pref??

I made the pref folder manually now.. only problem is every time it go's to install the patcher at the end of it at 100% the anarchy client shuts off by itself.. I don't know what to do..

**Disclaimer*** I am not an IT professional. That said, I have one question for you .... Are you by chance running that evil Microsoft abortion sometimes refered to as Windows Vista? If you are unfortunate enough to be doing so, your best move is to delete the AO Client completely, then reinstall fresh removing "Program Files" from the Install path, alternatively set the AO Shortcut (and patcher) to "Run as administrator".

Windows Vista Treats the Program Files Folder as a Protected Domain and files/folders can only be updated by "administrator" level permissions.

A download quota on an ISP???
23 years in computer repair and if never herd of such a thing. I've herd of having them on email accounts and News Groups but never an ISP service. My Comcast has one on my news groups only allowed 2 gigs a month but it's Giganews so I just upgrade to their unlimited service.

But as far as your computer problems ya your gonna have to reformat that drive and reinstall all your programs to it. What happened was once you made your moms hd the main drive you made yours a slave drive and when you reinstalled windows on the new hd you erased all the reg files for your drive.

Basically windows doesn't recognize any of the programs for that drive cause it doesn't have any registry files for anything installed on it.

Reformat reinstall and you should be ok!!!!

As far as your ISP um It sucks get a new one LOL

Normally I would agree cause Vista is a complete piece of crap but in this case what OS your running wont have a baring on this. Once you make main drive into a slave drive you have to reformat and start again for any programs that were installed. Especially if that drive still has a copy of windows on it cause the two will conflict with each other.

Come out to Australia and you will learn unlimited actually means 20 gigs :P
Seriously Telstra actually did that one a while back. There are not unlimited plans left in Australia. When both cable and ADSL came out we had them but they have since been killed off. I only know of one person left with a unlimited plan because his ISP didn't put a cluase in the contract to change it. The downside to this though is in order to keep his "unlimited" (which is limited by his speed). He has to stay on ADSL1 with 512kb/s downstream.

Well, it could be worse. It could be my dial-up! Of course it has to be unlimited because it takes forever to download anything. And I mean ANYTHING! The last AO patch that took everyone else about 2 minutes took me 27 minutes. That's the BAD news. The GOOD news is that I have internet! Slow is better than none!

*needs her AO fix once a day ;) *

I'm not sure I could go back to dial up on any kind of a permeant basis...

I am not sure I could go back to dial-up at all
.
I am quite certain I would be unable to play AO (or any other online game) without my DSL. and it would easier (for me) to be without the computer entirely, than to be limited to Dial-up
