OMG Puzzle!!

Postby Vallikat » Fri Feb 15, 2008 3:31 pm

So for Christmas my mom gave us a jigsaw puzzle. "Something to do in case we get a snow day" she said.

Well we haven't hardly seen a flake of snow this winter, but a few weeks ago I figured I would break it out anyway. Right away I could see I was in over my head. Not that it's a super difficult puzzle as far as they go. But I'm not like a puzzle expert so for me this is really hard. In the beginning I got frustrated with it and walked away. I would come back from time to time and pop a peice in here or there, but that's about it.

Well last weekend I decided I was tired of looking at all those peices scattered around and I needed to finish it.

This puzzle has become an all consuming obsession. I sit down to work on it for "just a minute" and next thing I know, hours have ticked by. On Monday I logged in to AO, discovered we had no DJ yet and figured I would work on it just until Ivan came on. Yeah...I never made it to Ivan's show. Last night I never logged on to AO at all. "Happy Valentine's Day, hon, if you need me, I'll be here just working on this puzzle a minute". (ok, I didn't put it like that, but I may as well have).

It's killing me this thing. This morning I sat down for "just a minute" because I noticed that the sunlight was adding some clarity to the shades of navy, black, and purple that are killing my eyes. Fifty minutes later, I had missed my morning workout and had to run to get ready for work. Thankfully I had hit a roadblock or I might still be sitting there.

I need help. Seriously. I have a three-day weekend ahead of me and I am hoping that I can complete it in that time. It doesn't seem likely. It's a 1000 peice puzzle and even with my hours getting lost sitting there, I might only get 10 or 20 peices put in. At that rate, its going to take me a very long time. But I have some strategy ideas in mind and so I'm hoping to be able to tackle it.

I just wanted to let you all know that I'm not ignoring you on purpose. I just need to get this puzzle done. :)

Hehe. I know what you mean. I have a 1000 piece BBC Planet Earth puzzle that's currently getting the best of me. I finished the bordered and didn't realize a couple hours had passed by. I was going to walk away at that point, but the puzzle started calling me names, insulting my mom, and all that jazz, so I kind of adapted an "I shall vanquish thee" attitude.

Just make sure to keep hydrated and snacks handy if you find it difficult to break away for meals. I'm rooting for ya. :)

I've made jigsaw puzzles a family affair. I sit with the kiddies and we all do some--even a large wooden one for the baby who will be 2 next month. My soon to be 4 year old is amazing--she'll finish a 50 piece puzzle in an hour and a half!

I love quiet time..;)

I actually did get my son to work on this one with me awhile. When he was small we used to do them all the time. Now that he's 16, its a bit more difficult to convince him, but he did give me a couple hours.

I got my boyfriend involved in it with me over the weekend. This is how bad it was. We're both NASCAR fans. Yesterday was the Daytona 500, the premiere race of the season. The race was on the TV, but I don't think either of us watched more than 5 minutes of it. Now I know some of you would choose the puzzle (or just about anything else) over the race any day of the week. But for us who have been anticipating this race since the drop of the checkers at Homestead (the close of the last race last year), this is very unusual.

The bright side is we probably only have around 200 pieces left. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. :)
