Jugs, this should not be a problem. Last year I booked at the Hilton and then changed to the Marriott after talking to some other people. Since it was so far in advance, the Hilton promptly returned the money that they had charged me for my first night's stay. Also I'm sure it is absolutely early enough to book at the Marriott at this point.

I'm also booked at Hilton.

Major problem here is that Marriott is currently booked up for con rates. You have to pay standard expensive rate if you book Marriott right now, and I don't know if any new con rate rooms are going to free up in the future.

But yes if you call either of the other two hotels and manage to book something there, you can cancel Hilton for a full refund, up to 3 days prior to arrival.

Ok, on that note, I checked the Marriott again to be sure and sure enough Tarryk's speaks the truth. All booked. I called the Hilton and they told me that I got the last single room available at that rate.

However, if last year is any indication, rooms will open up and I plan on trying back at the Marriott periodically to see if the status has changed. People make their plans and cancel their plans all the time so that could happen. I would suggest you all do the same.

I actually don't even know why I dragged my feet this long. All of the Con hotels will allow you to cancel your reservation up to within just either 2 or 3 days. So I really could've and should've gotten the hotel I wanted when they went up, but, for whatever reason, I just didn't. So anyway the point being that planning is easy until you get to the real risk. Once you get to booking your flight, chances are that's going to be non-refundable (unless you want to pay a premium). So booking a room is cake compared to that. :)

Oh and BTW, just a reminder that you have only until the end of February to get your badge at $60.

Thanks for that reminder... as soon as I get home I'll buy my badge...

And I'm driving to the con.... so no flight bookings for me :)
*giggles*

But I see what you mean Valli I just did not want to deal with all of it out here... once I get home I'll be hitting the nity-grity :P

Well good thing is I wont be all alone in the Hilton, I did try the Marriot an was informed no availabilities at this time not even for an upgraded room or sweet. Still can not upgrade at the Hilton either I have been trying since I booked there. Well at least I wont have to sleep in the lobby or Under a newspaper on the street somewhere. I am so looking forward to August and I am glad you are booked IN the Hilton too Tarryk, I was so worried you would not be going this year, but I have faith that you will make it work.

One of these days I'll be able to make a Dragoncon. I have the income, just paying off loans before hand will be the problem =/

Regi if I have learned anything at all in life it is we will always have bills, to put off fun to pay off bills will always keep us from having fun and keep us from our dreams, do not make the mistake of not having fun in your life. Life is far to short. Do not put yourself in dire straights to have fun but do not give it up in order to be Debt free, or it will never happen.....Trust Me, either you will be too old or too sick to enjoy those things if you wait till you pay off all your Bills, Just plan it pay it in sessions and make it happen...you will keep the memories forever, the good kind that always bring a smile to your lips.

Oh, don't worry. Once I finish off paying my loans I'm in the clear. And that might be within the next 2 years anyway

I'd like to bring my future wife with me but she hates flying =/

You can always pull a Mr T, (A-Team), slip her a micky, and she'll never know the flight ever happened. ;)

Bit of an update. I've decided that this year is not such a good year for me to go to D*Con. Financially that is. So I will be going next year. It's already marked down in my calendar ;).

Woah nice! Now the big question is, where is there Sheraton in relation to the other three? Because the Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt are pretty durn convenient to go between without hardly even stepping outside, but I don't remember seeing such an accessible fourth.

If you look on the map on the DCon site, it looks like it's 2 blocks down from the Hilton. Which, under normal circumstances I would probably think is fairly close. However, under con circumstances, seems a trifle far. Also, was the Sheraton where we stopped for our pit stop on the party bus? Not sure being as I may have had an alcoholic beverage or 2 at that point. But I think it was and it seems to me it was more than a couple blocks away. I will be curious to see what if any con activities take place there.

The good thing to note about the Sheraton is that it is a trifle cheaper than the other offerings.

As most of you know already I'm going to be having a baby in May. While I'm sure the soon to be grandmother would love to watch her grand-daughter during DragonCon, she will only be 4 months old at that point. Thats just to young for me to feel comfortable going overseas without her and frankly, DragonCon is WAY to germ infested of a place (as so many of us know from the inevitable plague we tend to ketch every time) for me to even consider bringing her. You won't be able to keep me away next year though! :D

As for everyone going. I HIGHLY suggest getting Airborne. It works wonders to boost your immune system when you know your going to be in an area prone to germs. I take it every time I work at one of the kids' schools and I haven't gotten sick yet unlike 2 years ago before I started taking it and I swear I got sick just about EVERY time I stepped into the schools. heh
