HD DVD Player

Postby Rehab » Thu Dec 20, 2007 1:12 pm

He guys im currently trying to convince my dad to get an xbox 360 hehe. Well now what we have currently is a media centre pc but it kinda sucks with the visual. So one thing ive found with the xbox 360 is that it has that extra hd dvd drive and seeing as alot of the current hd dvd drives are like twice as much i thought it mite turn him. Now im just wondering what everyone thinks of hd dvd and if anyone has seen Serenity on a HD dvd drive. Hopefully i can convince him that the 360 is better for the mediacentre as since we have the pc i can hide it away somewhere to use as a server.

I have a 360 in my house, but we dont have an HD tv, so unless you have an HD tv, you may or may not really see a difference in over all quality. If you are wanting a 360 for gaming more than movie watching, the its all good, but just getting one to mainly play movies isnt really a super idea, as you have many more options with HD players in general, but if you are looking to compromise and use it almost equally for both gaming and movie watching, and have an HD tv, then get either a 360, or a PS3, since PS3's have the Blu Ray drive, and is significantly cheaper than a dedicated Blu Ray player. And PS3's are roughly $300-$400 or so now, and a 360 is roughly $280 or so.

Like Chaimera said, if you dont have an HD Tv then its not going to make any real difference.

As far as the PS3 vs Xbox, I think that the HD format has a better chance. Sony usually manages their licenceing of formats poorly. Think Beta. If that dosent ring a bell, LD or lazer disc. still nothing? They just suck at licenceing, like me at spelling.

Gaming, not a clue. I havent used a console since N64.

The Xbox 360 Elite (roughly 400 to 450 bucks) sports the HD-DVD drive. Regular 360's, to my knowledge, won't read high def movies.

There are cheaper places to look than an Xbox for video needs. Plus, I'm of the mind that the Xbox fail rates arn't worth the gamble. :?

(I own a ps3, it's way nice. I use it as much as a media center as I do for gaming. If you're looking for a media center device, that might be it.)

bleh hate playstations after they destroyed the dreamcast even though it is miles better than the ps2 :P. But ye we have a 50 inch HD-TV so it's kind ruined not using HD ready stuff on it.

I think the player should work on any of them dont really need the stupid amount of 120 gigs on the elite. But HD Dvd will really takeover since bluray is way more expensive and damaged easily since its so thin even though its better than the HD Dvd but then so wat that thing that was competing against the VCR hehe.

I guess ill just have to try real hard to convince him. But then atleast the cabinet with all the electronics wont look such a shambles with the lame media pc in there.

With the xbox 360 premium it say it can be used on a hd tv upto the max 1080i i think
