Can't follow on Ultraviolet, but Chronicles of Riddick definitely hits my top 10. It would be in my top 5 if it weren't for the replacement "Jack" turned "Kira". They really needed to go with the original actress for that role.

That's the underlying problem with the question..
Most of us.. could go all day, listing sci-fi films that we love, or just enjoy watching..
From 1950's B-Movies, through to modern day blockbusters... Every single film, has it's own merits.. even battlefield earth, which just went to prove that if you have enough money, even a crackpot can get a film published worldwide..

hmmmm has to be:
Matrix ( had a huge obsession with this made a spoof of it too lol >_< )
Serenity ( unhealthy obsession with this too )
Sunshine ( love the visuals completely mind blowing )
too many other movies to think of really but those would be in the top nt really sure about star wars i loved it but something about it makes me not have it at the top

Hmm... I must me weirder than most people or something then.... I actually liked Battlefield Earth lol. For the longest time though, my favorite movie of all time was Event Horizon, regardless of genre. Now.... its a hard choice to make... of any genre

War of the Worlds (remake with the tool Cruise) I was VERY impressed with it.
Fire in the Sky Wasn't a lot of action.. but man it scared the piss out of me, especially knowing it was based on a true story.

Hmm.. I bet some old timers are surprised I haven't replied earlier. Oh well, like that matters.
(1) I'll always be attached to "Bladerunner". Philip K Dicks "Do Android Dream Of Electric Sheep" of course. So many versions now, and now I hear of another cut going to be released that was "lost" on the editing floor. The timing of the movie was 15 years ahead of it's time. Cyberpunk was portrayed as visual as it was gonna get at the time. Rutger Hauer at his prime with the most beautiful death ever. Hard to make an argument against Ridley Scott's masterpiece.
(2) "2001" created physics PhD's out of hippies, and probably invented coders determined that AI would be a reality in this century. HAL is unforgettable. Kubrick influenced a generation with this work....let it speak for itself. As a side note, 2010 wasn't all that bad, just bad actors. I still quiver when thinking of going even CLOSE to Europa.....anytime soon that is.
(3) "Contact" A well recognized vision of Carl Sagan. The facts were fictional (you know what I mean), but the juxtapositing of good math and current science worked out for the better. And Jodie Foster just makes things work.
(4) "Alien" What?! Ridley Scott again! A perfect mix of genre sci-fi and horror. The very best thing about this movie is showing it to teenage girls that think you are....oh wait...nevermind about that. For real, just everything worked.
(5) "Star Wars: Episode IV - The Empire Strikes Back" Luke, I am your father....nuff said.
(6) "The Fifth Element" I don't quite know how to describe how cool this movie is, but if you love science fiction that I don't need too.
(7) "Lost" TV series that basically pWnzes anything else you try to watch. Sneakin it in for posterity, and that maybe Tarryk will eventually watch it.

Well, Old school movies I'd have to go the original War Of The Worlds!
And newer movies, I would have to go with a toss up between The Chronicles Of Riddick, Star Wars III (Yoda goes off in this one!) and Ultra Violet.

Wow that's two so far for Ultraviolet. I own the DVD, and I still haven't seen the whole thing because I keep falling asleep (not kidding) or turning it off in a fit of sheer boredom. I won't tear it apart on details because the thread is about favorites, not disasters, but...
...if it's being put on peoples "favorites" on all-time sci-fi, I'm definitely missing something. Without meaning any offense, what's the appeal?

In my opinion Starship troopers has more content in it then most Sci-fi. If that isn't arguement enough, then I present exhibit B: Starship trooper's lack of Jar Jar Binks.

Been away awhile.
Very nice choices Otori, though I still say Empire Strikes Back is best of all.
old War of the Worlds.. hmm I loved the Classics Illustrated comic, had it as a young child.
Odyssey 5 is a show I just saw on SciFi channel last week. Seems interesting, looked it up sorta, is it a new version or the old show they showing?
